A bombshell new report has exposed thousands of “errors” involving Canadian doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers in cases of people being euthanized by the government in British Columbia.

The findings were uncovered through a freedom of information request by Canadian Catholic News, an arm of the Catholic Register.

The request obtained British Columbia’s “Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Oversight 2024 Year-End Report.”

The report shows that more than half of all “assisted suicide” cases in the province in 2024 involved mistakes that required review by government officials.

The scale of the problem is staggering.

In 2024, 4,169 people in British Columbia were marked for euthanasia.

That was a 10 percent increase from 2023.

Of the roughly 4,190 cases reviewed that year, the province’s MAiD Oversight Unit found 2,807 errors in 51.9 percent of total “case outcomes.”

More Than Half of Cases Had Errors

The report states that cases requiring “follow-up” had missing information.

In 353 cases, or 12.5 percent, officials found compliance concerns.

Those cases “required education” of healthcare personnel “to ensure they understand legal requirements and the professional standards associated with MAiD.”

That means hundreds of euthanasia cases raised concerns serious enough that government officials had to step in and educate medical personnel about legal and professional requirements.

The errors did not stop the system from continuing.

According to the report, 72 percent of the MAiD cases resulted in people being killed by state-sanctioned lethal injection.

Another 23 percent died of other causes.

Four percent were found not eligible for the deadly procedure under current Canadian law.

Only 1.4 percent of people asked to withdraw their assisted suicide cases.

The numbers paint a chilling picture of a system that is expanding quickly while producing a shocking number of mistakes.

Euthanasia Watchdog Sounds Alarm

Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, said the findings expose a major crisis inside British Columbia’s assisted suicide regime.

“It’s all very shocking that you have such a large amount and percentage of errors in British Columbia,” Schadenberg said, according to the Catholic Register report.

Schadenberg said it is “clear” that there are serious “problems” with euthanasia in the province.

The province’s own numbers support that warning.

In 2024, 6.5 percent of all deaths in British Columbia were caused by MAiD.

That number is continuing to rise.

Health officials in the province have not yet responded to the report’s findings.

Their silence leaves Canadians facing an urgent question.

Microsoft is slashing thousands of jobs across its Xbox division and broader company while also receiving approval for thousands of employer-sponsored H-1B visas this year.

The Xbox unit plans to eliminate approximately 3,200 positions through the end of fiscal year 2027.

About 1,600 of those role eliminations are taking effect immediately.

“You want to make sure they fail in school,” the woman said.

“If they fail in school and you can get them on medication, your rate goes up.

“Every time they don’t pass a grade, your rate goes up because they’re a more difficult kid.

“Every time they need medication, your rate goes up.”

Lilley condemned the situation in blunt terms.

“This is a demonic situation that exists because the church closed her doors,” Lilley said.

Authorities in Western Australia have launched an official investigation into the death of Jeffrey Epstein victim and ex-Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

“It would be a profound injustice if the question of whether systems failed her in her final months were not examined with equivalent rigour.

“Giuffre’s death is unusual only in that it is visible.

“Her public profile means there is an unusually detailed record of her final months – and what that record shows is deeply consistent with what our research tells us about how these deaths occur, and how they are too often overlooked.”

The letter said Giuffre’s death raises broader questions about family violence, coercive control, and possible systemic failures.

Domestic Violence Experts Warn Victims Can Be Dismissed

Alison Evans, chief executive officer at the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing, was among those who signed the letter.

Evans said victim-survivors of intimate partner violence often describe being ignored, blamed, or pushed into mental health pathways rather than having the violence against them recognized.

“Women with experiences of intimate partner violence often describe feeling dismissed, blamed for the abuse, or redirected into mental health pathways during contact rather than having the violence recognised by health, policing and legal services,” Evans said.

“A victim-survivor’s distress and suicidal thoughts and behaviours should not be treated as individual disorders,” she added.

The review now places new scrutiny on how police responded to Giuffre before her death and whether the system treated her as a person in need of protection or failed to fully recognize the risks she may have faced.

Central Figure in Epstein Scandal

Giuffre settled a sexual assault lawsuit against Andrew, who has always denied her allegations.

Public schools in Henrico County, Virginia, are being told to cut electricity use as the region suffers through a brutal heatwave while dozens of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers continue consuming massive amounts of power.

Henrico County is home to 37 data centers.

Another 17 are on the way.

Now, as the East Coast bakes under dangerous summer heat, county officials are warning government employees and schools that electricity costs are soaring.

The demand came just days before the heatwave hit the area.

Beginning July 1, electricity rates for Henrico County government and school facilities will jump by 25 percent.

That increase is expected to cost taxpayers an estimated $5 million in the next fiscal year.

County Manager John Vithoulkas warned employees that more hikes are likely coming.

“Beginning July 1st, the rate we pay for electricity used in all Henrico County government and school facilities will increase dramatically — by 25 percent, increasing costs by an estimated $5 million next fiscal year,” Vithoulkas wrote in an email obtained by 404 Media.

“We anticipate more rate increases for electricity in the years ahead.”

Schools Told to Conserve Power

Vithoulkas did not explicitly mandate that schools turn down air conditioning.

But the message was clear enough.

Electricity is getting more expensive, and public facilities are being told to use less of it.

That warning comes at the worst possible time.

Summer heatwaves are when indoor cooling becomes most essential.

These periods are also times when electricity demand puts the greatest strain on the power grid.

“Turn off your lights when leaving your workspace, including when you leave for the day,” he wrote.

“Turn off your computers/laptops at the end of each workday.

“If your workspace has windows, adjust the blinds to manage heat from sunlight.”

He also advised employees not to use space heaters, saying a single unit can cost the county up to $300 per year.

That advice may be true in winter.

It does little for schools facing a summer heatwave.

The same request was not made to energy-gobbling AI data centers, however.

Babies and toddlers under the age of two should not have any intentional screen time, according to a new study warning that early exposure to digital devices may damage children’s long-term development and quality of life.

Researchers at the University of Leeds, UK, said screen use among children under two has been linked to delayed language development, poor sleep, eye health problems, and a higher risk of obesity.

The landmark study is described as the most comprehensive review so far of global research on the issue.

It calls on governments to reconsider their recently published guidance for screen time among children under five.

Current recommendations say children under two should avoid screen time “other than for shared activities that encourage bonding, interaction and conversation.”

The new study goes further.

Researchers warned that any intentional screen time for babies and toddlers under two can be associated with a wide range of potential harms.

Researchers Warn of Long-Term Risks

Rafe Clayton of the University of Leeds said the issue is not being treated seriously enough.

“We have learned that screen use among the under-twos is a global concern that in 2026 is not being adequately addressed,” Clayton said.

“This has implications for a whole generation and their future quality of life,” he added.

Previous research has found that two-year-olds who spend more time on screens tend to have lower vocabulary levels.

Existing guidance from the World Health Organization and the American Academy of Pediatrics already recommends that children under two avoid screen time.

However, researchers said those recommendations are being exceeded globally during the first 1001 days of life, from pregnancy to age two.

That period is considered critical for human development.

Screens Can Replace Bonding, Play, and Sleep

Researchers warned that early screen use can reduce opportunities for babies and toddlers to bond with parents and caregivers.

A separate study found that 2 percent of nine-month-old babies had more than three hours of screen time every day.

Researchers said more work is needed to determine which strategies best help parents and caregivers reduce or eliminate screen time for babies.

However, the review identified several approaches that have already been shown to help.

Experts said taking children outdoors and spending time in nature can reduce screen use while supporting physical development and eye health.

They also recommended keeping screens away during mealtimes, which may encourage healthier eating habits.

Non-digital toys can help reduce screen time and support development.

Spending time in the physical presence of others, including meeting, interacting, and playing with other people, also supports social development.

Parents Need Support, Not Blame

The review found that parents’ and caregivers’ screen use is linked to babies’ screen use.

Scientists say they have created a fully synthetic cell that can feed, grow, replicate its genome, and divide, marking a major step toward building life-like systems from non-living chemical components.

The team from the University of Minnesota says its synthetic cell, called “SpudCell,” is the “first synthetic cell with a complete cell cycle.”

Researchers say it can “grow, replicate its genome, divide, and undergo selection and competition across multiple generations.”

The breakthrough could open the door to a new era of biotechnology in which synthetic organisms are built from scratch and programmed to carry out specific tasks.

University of Minnesota synthetic biologist Kate Adamala, who led the team, said the work shows that life-like cellular behavior can be recreated through chemistry.

“We’ve replicated in chemistry what only used to be possible in biology: the complete set of behaviors of a cell,” Adamala said.

“It proves that the most fundamental functions of life, like growth and replication, do not need a mysterious magical spark.”

SpudCell Built from Scratch

SpudCell remains extremely primitive.

Researchers said it most closely resembles a bacterium, but it is far simpler than any natural cell.

Because it was built from scratch, however, the team says it has a major advantage over natural cells: scientists know exactly what is inside it.

“I know the full ingredient list of the cell; I know exactly what chemicals, what molecules, at what concentrations,” Adamala told CNN.

“It is fully defined, which means we can engineer it.”

Adamala said the project could help launch a broader synthetic biology economy.

“We’re hoping we’re really starting the true age of bioeconomy, enabling technology that will let people engineer biology,” she said.

The research is detailed in a preprint paper that was submitted for publication this week.

SpudCell is made up of roughly 150 to 200 molecules.

That is dramatically simpler than a natural cell, which can contain billions of molecules.

Synthetic Cell Still Depends on Scientists to Survive

Despite the breakthrough, SpudCell is nowhere close to a fully independent organism.

Adamala described it as an “incredibly wimpy organism that right now basically does nothing other than to eat and occasionally make a daughter cell.”

Scientists must feed SpudCell externally and keep it at 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

Under those conditions, it replicates about once every 12 hours.

That is much slower than natural bacteria such as E. coli, which can divide roughly every 30 minutes.

SpudCell also cannot produce its own proteins.

That means scientists must keep feeding it in order for it to survive and replicate.

In other words, the synthetic cell is not self-sufficient.

It is a controlled system that behaves like a primitive cell only under carefully managed laboratory conditions.

“It’s just the beginning,” Adamala told CNN.

“It’s a chassis that we’re hoping to build on, and that’s significant, because now we actually can have some reasonable idea of how to build on it.”

“I don’t think she’s created life.”

Still, Endy said the research points toward a future in which more scientists may be able to build cells.

“However, does it promise a future where more people will be able to build cells?” he said. “Yes.”

Other researchers said the work represents a major step toward synthetic life.

“Kate Adamala’s team designed and built a nonliving synthetic cell that is much closer to being ‘alive’ than anything else produced by the bottom-up synthetic cell field,” J. Craig Venter Institute synthetic cell researcher John Glass told the New York Times.
