Birth Rates Plunge Among Liberals as Radical Doomism Surges

Blogger Comment: There can be many reasons for this and in my mind it has to do with wage diffentials between who vote Republican and Democrat or where most Democrat took the Covid 19 Experimental Injection and far more than the Republicans (by a margin of 27% in some quoted analsis) and their family size was reduced and is still doing so after Biden pushed throughout for the people to take the jab, which now has been found NOT ro safe and effective as the American people were told and basicaly forced down their throats continually durin the Biden Admninistion…but only guessing here…

A damning new study has revealed that birth rates are plunging among liberals amid a rise in progressive doomism that is leading to left-wing Americans thinking twice about starting families.

Data shows that America’s political divide is now extending into the nursery as new research reveals that conservatives are having significantly more children than liberals.

Research from the Institute for Family Studies (IFS) found that self-identified conservatives have an average of 1.4 children, compared with just 1.09 among liberals.

Crucially, researchers found that the gap remained even after accounting for sex, religion, race, income, age, marital status, and education.

The findings come as America faces a wider birthrate crisis and President Donald Trump’s administration pushes policies aimed at encouraging Americans to start and grow families.

Writing for left-wing outlet The Atlantic, staff writer Olga Khazan acknowledged that having children, particularly larger families, has increasingly become associated with the political Right.

“Having children — particularly lots of children — has become a bit right-coded, as the kids say,” Khazan wrote.

“Americans and Europeans who identify as leftist or liberal tend to have fewer children than those who identify as conservative or right-leaning.”

Conservatives Put Greater Value on Family

The research points to a deeper cultural divide over what Americans believe constitutes a fulfilling life.

Khazan cited polling showing that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to consider having children “highly important” to living a fulfilling life.

Democrats, meanwhile, were more likely to identify creative activities as “one of the most important things” to them.

“Democrats, then, may be less willing to choose parenthood when it competes as a priority with career, friendships, travel, and other pursuits,” Khazan wrote.

The divide goes beyond competing priorities.

The article noted that liberals also expressed concerns involving climate change, access to reproductive healthcare, and fears about repeating family trauma.

IFS researchers similarly found significantly higher levels of anxiety among liberals concerning parenting and their mental health.

Ken Burchfiel, an IFS research fellow who worked on the study, said those differences could not simply be explained by obvious demographic factors.

“We found that partisan differences in parenting attitudes held up even when controlling for age, sex, race, household income, relationship status, education, religion, and parental status,” Burchfiel said in response to the study.

“That means that these differences aren’t merely a result of diverging faith preferences or income gaps.”

Urban Liberal Lifestyle May Be Driving the Divide

Burchfiel suggested geography could provide part of the answer.

Democrats are disproportionately concentrated in major cities, where housing costs, smaller living spaces, and other pressures can make raising children substantially more difficult.

“The question remains, then: what is driving this change?” Burchfiel said.

“My hypothesis is that Democrats’ tendency to live in more urban areas may help explain these gaps.

“If you live in a small apartment in a major city, you probably are more likely to see parenting as very stressful and difficult; after all, raising a child is more expensive and complicated in the heart of an urban area than in the suburbs.”

Burchfiel also suggested adults living in increasingly childless urban environments may have fewer opportunities to interact with families, leaving them less confident about becoming parents themselves.

“As a result, you might feel less confident about your own ability to be a parent,” he said.

“Such opportunities might continue to decline now that major cities are experiencing a drop in the numbers of children.”

Trump Administration Pushes Pro-Family Agenda

The findings emerge as the Trump administration has made reversing America’s collapsing birthrate part of its pro-family agenda.

Vice President JD Vance has repeatedly encouraged Americans to have more children, while the administration has considered financial incentives designed to make raising a family more affordable.

Among the proposals floated has been a $5,000 “baby bonus” for mothers who give birth.

President Donald Trump has also signed an executive order aimed at expanding access to in vitro fertilization and reducing the financial barriers facing couples trying to have children.

The political significance of those policies is becoming increasingly difficult to separate from the demographic trends.

While conservatives are placing greater emphasis on marriage, children, and family formation, the research suggests liberals are increasingly prioritizing careers, travel, education, and other pursuits.

America’s Birthrate Continues to Collapse

The ideological fertility gap comes against the backdrop of a much larger demographic problem.

America simply is not producing enough children.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics shows that both the number of births and the general fertility rate have been declining.

Provisional CDC figures showed U.S. births fell another 1% between 2024 and 2025.

That makes the political divide over children more than an interesting demographic curiosity.

If one ideological group consistently has more children than another, those differences can compound across generations, particularly as the country’s overall fertility rate continues falling.

For now, the numbers point to a striking cultural divergence.

Conservatives are having more children.

Liberals are having fewer.

And as America confronts a worsening birthrate crisis, the country’s ideological divide is increasingly becoming a demographic one as well.
