In a move alarming to pro-life advocates and religious leaders, New York Democrats appear poised to legalize euthanasia, or “physician-assisted suicide.”

New York is on track to become the latest Democrat-controlled state to greenlight what critics call “state-sanctioned death.”

According to the New York Post, a vote on the bill could come as early as Monday.

Top Democrats are signaling strong support for the slippery slope measure.

The bill would allow terminally ill patients — defined as having six months or less to live — to request and receive lethal prescriptions to end their own lives.

“I do believe there are the votes, and it is likely it will come to the floor,” said Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

Stewart-Cousins confirmed that the Democrat supermajority is prepared to usher the legislation through both chambers of the state legislature.

The bill would then head to Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul to be signed into state law.

Hochul has not publicly opposed the measure.

Supporters of the bill, such as State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, claim the law is about “compassion,” “choice,” and “dignity.”

They insist that allowing the state-sanctioned euthanasia of citizens would offer New Yorkers “autonomy” at the end of life.

But pro-life organizations and faith-based groups are pushing back hard.

They are warning that the bill sends a chilling message about the value of human life.

Such laws suggest that the elderly, disabled, and chronically ill are a burden that should be eliminated.

In a statement, Bob Bellafiore, spokesperson for the New York State Catholic Conference, one of the strongest opponents of the legislation, said:

“Handing sick people a suicide cocktail is not compassion, nor is it healthcare.

“We know many Democratic senators have very deep reservations about this bill, and they should be allowed to vote their conscience instead of toeing a party line.”

Critics point to a dangerous precedent: that once the state normalizes suicide for the terminally ill, it’s a short step toward pressuring vulnerable individuals, especially the poor and those with disabilities, to “choose” death over the high costs of care or the burden they feel they impose on others.

The legislation mirrors similar laws in 11 other states and Washington, D.C., including most recently Delaware, which legalized the practice just last month.

If passed, New York would become the largest and most influential blue state to embrace the controversial policy.

Proponents are framing the bill as a “progressive” milestone.

However, for those who believe in the sanctity of life, it’s a deeply troubling sign of where our culture is headed: a society where convenience trumps compassion, and death is marketed as dignity.

As Monday’s vote looms, religious leaders, ethicists, medical professionals, and pro-life advocates across the state are urging lawmakers, especially those with lingering doubts, to stand for life, not legislate death.

Switzerland has launched a new vending machine-like “assisted suicide pod” that allows people to climb inside and be euthanized with the “push of a button.”

The new portable death “pod” is on track to claim its first victim this year after winning approval from the Swiss government.

Florian Willet, the CEO of the pro-euthanasia organization The Last Resort, announced the launch of the machine during a recent press conference.

Willet declared that Switzerland will “soon” use its portable suicide pod to begin killing citizens.

According to Willet, people are eagerly awaiting their chance to die in the machine.

“Since we have people indeed queueing up, asking to use the Sarco, it’s very likely that it will take place pretty soon,” Willet said.

He continued by eerily describing it as a “beautiful way” to die.   

The pod is called Sarco, short for sarcophagus, the name of the coffins in which ancient Egyptian pharaohs were buried.

The futuristic-looking capsule was first unveiled in 2019.

The invention was pitched as a way to more efficiently euthanize people in Switzerland.

However, the contraption was met with controversy.  

During a recent interview with the South China Morning Post, Sarco’s founder, Philip Nitschke explained how the pod works.

Nitschke has been nicknamed “Dr. Death” for his attempt to “glamorize” suicides.

He boasts that his pod can euthanize anyone who steps inside within minutes with a simple “push of a button.”

Once a person is inside the pod, they are asked who they are and where they are to establish their mental state.

They are then asked if they know what happens when they press the button.

The death in the pod can also be activated by a gesture, voice control, or even the blink of an eye for those who cannot vocally or physically communicate due to severe illness or mobility issues.  

After they answer, a voice says, “If you want to die press this button.”

Once the button is pressed, the pod is flooded with nitrogen causing the oxygen to plummet from 21 percent to 0.05 percent in the air in less than 30 seconds. 

“They will then stay in that state of unconsciousness for… around about five minutes before death will take place,” Nitschke explained.

However, he warned that the process cannot be stopped once a person commits to being killed.

“Once you press that button, there’s no way of going back,” he said.

The pod is fitted with cameras and death inside is filmed as evidence.

The video footage is then handed to a coroner to prove the cause of death.

The push to debut the pod this year comes after the pod was banned last month.

Prosecutors had questioned the legality and ethics of the pod.

Critics pointed out that it is unclear who is responsible for the death and who operates the pod.

Switzerland has allowed assisted suicide since 1942.

The laws’ only requirements are that the person freely chooses death, is of sound mind, and that their decision is not motivated by selfish reasons. 

The country’s broad euthanasia policy has made Switzerland a popular destination for those around the world who wish to end their lives.  

In addition to the legal question of who is responsible for the death, pro-life organizations have condemned the pods for trivializing death.

The machines and the laws that allow them are undermining the dignity of life, opponents argue.

James Mildred, the head of pro-life organization Christian Action Research and Education (CARE), said:

“Philip Nitschke’s device has been condemned by a broad range of commentators.

“Many people feel that it trivializes and even glamourizes suicide.

“We believe that suicide is a tragedy that good societies seek to prevent in every circumstance,” Mildred continued.

“There are ethical ways to help human beings that don’t involve the destruction of life.”

The Dutch government has relaxed its “assisted suicide” laws to begin euthanizing young and physically healthy citizens.

The move came after officials in the Netherlands received an application from doctors to euthanize a 29-year-old Dutch woman who was suffering from depression but otherwise healthy.

Rather than attempt to treat her condition, doctors have been pushing to put Zoraya ter Beek through the nation’s euthanasia program.

Ter Beek’s doctors first applied for “assisted suicide” in 2020, as Slay News previously reported.

She was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts caused by difficulties in her early childhood.

While counseling and various treatments have long existed for such conditions, globalist officials are increasingly pushing to quickly eliminate the problem with euthanasia.

The once-aspiring psychiatrist suffers from chronic depression, anxiety, trauma, and borderline personality disorder.

She was also diagnosed with autism.

Ter Beek believed that the safe environment her partner offered would help her mentally heal.

However, her situation didn’t improve and she reportedly continued to have suicidal thoughts and self-harmed.

Critics have been raising the alarm that vulnerable patients are being railroaded into euthanasia by doctors who are not interested in treating their condition.

Ter Beek acknowledges that there are growing concerns about people being pressured into euthanasia due to mental illnesses.

“People think that when you’re mentally ill, you can’t think straight, which is insulting,” she told The Guardian

“I understand the fears that some disabled people have about assisted dying, and worries about people being under pressure to die.

“But in the Netherlands, we’ve had this law for more than 20 years.

“There are really strict rules, and it’s really safe.”

Ter Beek has thought about her decision throughout the long process, which takes several years to complete.

“In the three and a half years this has taken, I’ve never hesitated about my decision,” she said.

“I have felt guilt — I have a partner, family, friends and I’m not blind to their pain.

“And I’ve felt scared. But I’m absolutely determined to go through with it.”

29-year-old Zoraya ter Beek will soon be euthanized rather than treated for her depression

For a person to be considered eligible for assisted suicide, they must be deemed to be “experiencing unbearable suffering with no prospect of improvement,” according to Dutch law.

The patient must also be completely informed and competent for the final process to be initiated.

“It’s a long and complicated process,” ter Beek said.

“It’s not like you ask for assisted dying on a Monday and you’re dead by Friday.

“I was on a waiting list for assessment for a long time because there are so few doctors willing to be involved in assisted dying for people with mental suffering,” she added.

A patient requesting to be euthanized must be evaluated by a team of physicians.

They have a second opinion on eligibility.

The whole case is then reviewed by a third independent doctor.

To be considered eligible, the doctor must determine that the patient may commit suicide if they are not euthanized.

However, patients suffering from depression often have suicidal thoughts if they are not treated.

“Every doctor at every stage says: ‘Are you sure? You can stop at any point,’” ter Beek explains.

Yet, she revealed that doctors reviewing her case often try to speak to her without her family present to discuss euthanasia.

“My partner has been in the room for most conversations in order to support me, but several times he has been asked to leave so the doctors can be sure I’m speaking freely,” she said.

Ter Beek was forced to delete all her social media profiles after an article about her case was published in April.

The story was reported around the world and led to many users bombarding her inbox telling her not to go through with the procedure, which left her in distress.

“People were saying: ‘Don’t do it, your life is precious.’ I know that,” she said.

“Others said they had a cure, like a special diet or drugs.

“Some told me to find Jesus or Allah or told me I’d burn in hell.

“It was a total sh*tstorm.

“I couldn’t handle all the negativity.”

Ter Beek expects to die in the coming weeks, following a meeting with her medical team.

“I feel relief. It’s been such a long fight.”

On the day of her death, her medical team will visit her at her home and begin the process by giving her a sedative and once she is in a coma, ter Beek will be given the drugs that stop her heart.

“For me, it will be like falling asleep,” she said.

“My partner will be there, but I’ve told him it’s OK if he needs to leave the room before the moment of death.

“Now the point has come, we’re ready for it and we’re finding a certain peace.

“I feel guilty too,” she said.

“But sometimes when you love someone, you have to let them go.”

A Canadian man has been euthanized by health officials after being hospitalized for “hearing loss,” according to reports.

61-year-old Alan Nichols was hospitalized in June of 2019 after problems with his hearings had led to depression and caused fears he may have been suicidal, the Associated Press reported.

However, shortly after Nichols arrived at the facility, he reportedly texted his brother, pleading with him to “bust him out.”

Just one month later, Nichols was dead after he had been euthanized by health officials.

The reason on his application document for “assisted suicide” is listed as “hearing loss.”

Now, his outraged family is demanding answers.

After learning of Mr. Nichols’ death, his family went to the police.

But authorities ruled that his euthanasia was justified, despite a euthanasia assessment filed by a nurse practitioner noting seizures, frailty, and “a failure to thrive.”

That explanation wasn’t good enough for Nichols’ family.

The family argues that with his history of mental illness, he couldn’t have truly understood the issue and that he wasn’t suffering.

“Alan was basically put to death,” his brother Gary Nichols said.

Experts are warning that this is an increasing problem within the country facing people with disabilities.

People with disabilities are at serious risk of being euthanized, a threat made even worse considering they routinely do not have access to basic health care and other needs.

Catalina Devandas Aguilar, a lawyer from Costa Rica and the United Nation’s first Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, wrote a scathing report on disability rights in Canada.

“Persons with disabilities have to initiate very lengthy and onerous legal procedures to get their rights recognized,” she told CTV.

“[D]uring my visit I have noticed that discussions about the rights of persons with disabilities are still framed in terms of social assistance, rather than from a human rights-based approach…

“I have also noted significant disparities in the areas of accessibility and access to education, health, administration of justice, and social protection depending on where a person with disabilities lives in Canada.”

She also found numerous cases of people with disabilities pressured into assisted suicide.

“I have been informed that there is no protocol in place to demonstrate that persons with disabilities have been provided with viable alternatives when eligible for assistive dying,” she said.

“I have further received worrisome claims about persons with disabilities in institutions being pressured to seek medical assistance in dying, and practitioners not formally reporting cases involving persons with disabilities.”

Assisted suicide routinely harms the most vulnerable people in society: the elderly, the disabled, the poor, and other minority groups.

These groups routinely plead with lawmakers not to inflict assisted suicide on their communities, and they are consistently ignored.

Canada is another example of just that — as people with disabilities are dying needlessly in greater and greater numbers, the country is not moving away from assisted suicide.

Instead, the country looking to expand it even further.

While Canada often receives praise for its socialized healthcare, the government-run medical system is now euthanizing the country’s sick and poor people.

In America, many on the Left will argue that the Canadian government’s federal healthcare system is more humane and something to be emulated.

However, it now appears that Canadian government officials are more interested in urging doctors to help patients to kill themselves than to treat them.

As Slay News has previously reported, Canada has some of the most permissive euthanasia laws in the world.

Canada’s medical assistance in dying laws allow almost anyone who can claim some form of hardship or disability to receive physician-assisted suicide, regardless of how minor those disabilities might be

In a recently reported horror story from The Associated Press, Alan Nichols, 61, was successfully killed after a quick one-month waiting period as he was suffering from hearing loss.

Aside from bouts of depression over his hearing, Nichols was otherwise healthy.

However, his brother claimed doctors railroaded Nichols into killing himself.

Nichols’ family said that hospital staff helped him request euthanasia and pushed him to do it, a story that has been repeated many times by other disabled or sick Canadians.

Roger Foley, whose story was also reported by The Associated Press, became so unnerved by his hospital’s healthcare providers discussing euthanasia as an option that he started to record conversations.

Foley has a degenerative brain disorder.

During one reported conversation, the hospital’s director of ethics tried to guilt Foley into thinking about the cost of his hospital stay.

The director told Foley it would cost “north of $1,500 a day.”

When Foley asked what long-term treatments were, the director responded, “Roger, this is not my show.

“My piece of this was to talk to you, [to see] if you had an interest in assisted dying.”

Foley says he had never discussed ending his own life prior to the encounter.

The fact that the ethics director mentioned how much it cost is essential to understanding why Canadian officials seem so hellbent on getting people to kill themselves.

There is a flurry of stories of Canadians choosing to die over living through crushing poverty.

The Spectator reported on a woman who chose assisted suicide because she “simply cannot afford to keep on living.”

As the Canadian government pays for healthcare, it is incentivized to cut costs as much as possible.

Based on how eager some hospitals seem to push euthanasia, the government seems to have concluded that it’s cheaper to kill people than to cure them.

It’s the same story for the disabled and mentally ill.

Global News Canada reported that a Canadian military veteran, pursuing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and a brain injury, was told, completely unprovoked, that he could receive medical assistance in dying by a Veterans Affairs Canada agent.

Global News did not name the veteran or the sources for the conversation, however.

The man fights for his country, receives injuries in the line of duty, and is told that he can kill himself for his sacrifice. How humane.

While these stories are all disgusting, they lay out perfectly the biggest danger of importing a government-run health care system to the U.S.

When the government decides who gets medical care and when they get care, it also can decide who doesn’t.

With the relatively substandard care that America’s poor and vulnerable get under Medicaid, for example, why would we want to give more power to government bureaucrats over patients’ health care decisions?

Something not often considered in the debate over government health care plays into the country’s current fascination with obliterating gender and sex differences.

Scores of children are being given hormones and treatments that will permanently warp and scar them.

What’s to stop some future government-run health care program from destroying a confused child’s body and then encouraging him to kill himself rather than deal with the consequences?

Canada is already beginning to consider allowing so-called mature minors to off themselves if the government determines them competent enough to make the decision.

Dying with Dignity, a pro-euthanasia group, posted a ghoulish blog post on mature minors and medical assistance in dying that urged the government to extend the option to children “at least 12 years of age and capable of making decisions with respect to their health.”

The Left already claims children are mature enough to change their sex, so giving 12-year-olds the ability to legally kill themselves seems like the logical next step.

As Slay News reported, Canada is already expanding its euthanasia laws to include “mature” children.

Worse, this push for suicide seems to be having a tangible impact on the number of people taking their own lives.

Canadian federal data shows that 10,064 people died in 2021 by medically-assisted suicide, a massive 32% jump from the year before.

This culture of government-endorsed death cannot be allowed to come to America.

Our costly healthcare system is far from perfect, but at least it isn’t encouraging people to end their own lives.

Canada’s rapidly expanding euthanasia industry has been a growing concern for some time.

The Canadian government first introduced Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in June 2016.

By relaxing the laws, the nation legalized assisted suicide for those whose death was reasonably foreseeable.

The MAID program was supposed to offer an alternative option for terminally ill people so they could avoid a painful death and die with dignity.

However, the nation’s Liberal government has increasingly expanded the laws since 2016.

Today, the Canadian government is euthanizing citizens for depression, hearing loss, autism, and even poverty and homelessness.

The government is even pushing to expand euthanasia laws to include children and infants.

What started as an option for terminally ill people is now being used to eliminate those who have become a burden on the nation’s socialized healthcare system.

Canadians are also now reporting that they are being railroaded into euthanasia by doctors who have no interest in treating their conditions.

While much of the criticism is usually aimed at the government, the doctors running the MAID often get overlooked.

However, few would even imagine the levels of enjoyment these doctors of death are getting from their job.

Dr. Ellen Wiebe has an extensive tenure in the medical field.

She has jumped into many different roles and positions throughout her career.

Yet, she proudly boasts that her most recent position is “the very best work [she’s] ever done.”

“I love my job!” she declared during a recent interview for a BBC documentary.

Dr. Wiebe spoke about her role in euthanizing Canadian citizens and enthusiastically gushed about her job of killing people.

She gloated that she’s been involved in “over 400” deaths during her time practicing MAID.

More alarmingly, Dr. Weibe has even been caught bending the already lax rules to be able to kill someone.

The practitioner euthanized an elderly man, Barry Hyman, despite a formal request to put him through MAID being denied, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Yet, she somehow manages to escape any punishment.

Hyman had lung cancer, and after-effects from a stroke led to him insisting on a medicine-induced death, CBC reported.

However, in July 2019, after a review from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C., Weibe was cleared of any wrongdoing for illegally euthanizing her patient.

“Having determined that you had not breached college standards by performing MAID on a resident of Louis Brier, the committee was not critical of your provision of MAID to Mr. Hyman,” the letter to Dr. Wiebe said.

According to Wiebe, the decision was no surprise.

It certainly flies in the face of medical ethics when a doctor, who is meant to help and save people, enjoys a lucrative career that involves killing babies, the disabled, and the elderly.

Some of the most vulnerable people in our society find themselves in the crosshairs of such an inexcusable set of practices.

Nevertheless, Dr. Wiebe won’t see punishment for the hundreds of lives she’s taken as eugenics becomes increasingly promoted in liberal nations.

Instead, the killings will continue to conform to the worldview of liberals where nothing is sacred.

A trove of documents from the liberal Canadian government has revealed that federal officials have been covering up efforts to secretly euthanize military veterans.

2,220 pages of documents obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request reveal that federal bureaucrats from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) have been pushing suffering service members into the nation’s taxpayer-funded euthanasia program.

Unsurprisingly, VAC, the federal department that is supposed to be in charge of helping Canadian veterans, has been scrambling to block the release of the documents exposing the scheme.

The documents contain several reports regarding complaints that VAC caseworkers have been trying to railroad veterans into the government’s taxpayer-funded Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program.

The records, obtained by Canadian outlet Rebel News, show that VAC chose to use verbal updates when speaking to senior staff rather than written ones.

The decision seemingly sought to prevent the creation of a paper trail related to allegations that department caseworkers were pushing veterans into “assisted suicide” instead of offering them full treatment.  

The documents and their contents come after several veterans came forward saying that their caseworkers told them they should apply for MAiD.

The majority of the veterans were dealing with acute post-traumatic stress disorder.

However, rather than offer the vets a long and costly treatment, the Canadian government’s socialized healthcare system is pushing for euthanasia as a more cost-effective solution.

It comes after the government was forced to delay plans to begin euthanizing members of the general public suffering from mental illnesses.

Again, the government sought to elevate the burden of long-term mental on the healthcare system by promoting MAiD.

As Slay News reported, however, the government was forced to delay the plan following an uprising from doctors who refused to euthanize otherwise healthy patients due to mental illness.

The original delay in expanding MAiD for those suffering solely from mental illness came after numerous public scandals surrounding the deadly program.

Among the scandals was the surfacing of reports that Canadian veterans were being pressured into killing themselves by workers at VAC.

VAC Minister Lawrence MacAulay claimed at the time that there was only one caseworker who was responsible for the MAiD scandal.

However, the newly released batch of documents proves that this is not the case. 

According to Rebel News’s reporting of the documents:

“On page 21, we can see in the media lines that Veterans Affairs officials were planning to claim there were no other incidents of Veterans Affairs staff telling veterans to kill themselves.

“They had to remove that from their talking points because other veterans came forward.” 

VAC staff tried to deny the allegations by claiming the other cases were only incidents in which veterans were inquiring about whether MAiD would prevent them from getting benefits after their death, as is the case in suicide.  

A quote from page 31 reads:

“Veterans may approach VAC following their decision to pursue medical assistance in dying.

“In those cases, Veterans Affairs helps the veteran and the family understand their benefits as well as other sports services that may be relevant to the veteran’s unique circumstances.”

On page 679, real evidence of a “cover-up” begins to show itself.

Red flags emerge in records showing VAC media staff saying that only verbal updates should be issued:

“Recommendation to keep the updates verbally to a limited distribution but will follow DMO 0SD’s preferred format and frequency.” 

The documents also show VAC staff scrambling to cover up media coverage about veterans being pushed into MAiD.

Page 2,125 reads: “Hello all, it’s interesting to follow the thrice-daily media report emails to see how far the main story is traveling.

“Yesterday, it was reported by a couple of US news outlets, and today, it is in the UK Daily Mail.” 

“It is interesting to see how much coverage it’s getting,” the VAC staff added.

“I had wondered if there would be anyone else to come out of the woodwork to say it had happened to them too but so far nothing (thankfully).” 

Euthanasia first became legal in Canada in 2016.

The laws were changed to supposedly offer a last-resort option for those suffering from terminal illness.

Since then, however, the laws have been massively expanded.

The eligibility criteria has been loosened to allow the chronically ill, not just the terminally ill, to qualify for death.

People who suffer from depression, poverty, or even hearing problems are now being euthanized by the government.

The program has now been opened up to “mature minors” with some pushing for the laws to include young children and infants.

Desiring to expand the procedure to even more Canadians, liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government sought to expand “assisted suicide” to those suffering solely from mental illness. 

However, in February, after pushback from pro-life, medical, and mental health groups as well as most of Canada’s provinces, the federal government delayed the mental illness expansion until 2027. 

The number of Canadians killed by lethal injection since 2016 stands at close to 65,000.

An estimated 16,000 people were killed by euthanasia in 2023 alone.

Many fear that, because the official statistics are manipulated, the number may be even higher.

A new study has revealed that the Canadian government’s socialized healthcare system is saving millions of dollars a year by euthanizing patients instead of treating them.

The study found that Canada’s healthcare system saves up to $136.8 million annually thanks to the government’s “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAiD) program.

However, critics are warning that vulnerable patients are being pressured into choosing death over “costly” care.

Many argue that euthanizing citizens to relieve the burden on the government is “heartless utilitarianism” that must be rejected.

The study was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

A “cost analysis of medical assistance in dying [suicide] in Canada” found that the policy saves the Canadian federal government up to $136.8 million every year, the study notes.

“As death approaches, healthcare costs increase dramatically in the final months,” the study states.

“Patients who choose medical assistance in dying may forgo this resource-intensive period.”

The report was based on projections using data from Belgium and the Netherlands.

In those two European nations, assisted suicide has been legal for over two decades.

“Medical assistance in dying” (MAiD) in Canada was legalized in 2016.

The authors of the report claim they “are not suggesting medical assistance in dying as a measure to cut costs.”

However, they “suggest that the savings will almost certainly exceed the costs associated with offering medical assistance in dying to patients across the country and that the inclusion of medical assistance in dying in the services covered by universal health care will … release funds to be reinvested elsewhere.”

The report also claims that euthanasia will shorten the lives of 60 percent of patients, mostly suffering from cancer, by one month, and by one week in 40 percent of cases.

This new study the globalist eugenics agenda that is emerging in the West.

Citizens are increasingly being viewed as a drain on resources.

As Slay News has previously reported, influential globalists, such as leaders of the World Economic Forum, frequently describe members of the general public as “useless.”

It should come as no surprise, then, when globalist governments push euthanasia as a means to relieve the “burden.”

Either through direct policy or indirectly through denial of funds, patients will suffer as a result and feel pressured to choose death, or simply be given no other alternative.

The push for “assisted suicide” is now also spreading to other countries around the world.

The UK government is now also considering plans to legalize “assisted suicide.”

Like Canada, the UK also relies on a taxpayer-funded socialized healthcare system.

It is vital that politicians and the public heed the warnings coming out of Canada and reject the horrific trend towards death as a solution to the challenges of care.

A Canadian cancer patient was recently granted assisted suicide within two days after waiting weeks in vain for chemotherapy.

His widow later stated:

“I think I could still have my Dan if he had gotten treatment sooner.

“If we had more money, we could have gone to the [United] States.

“But we’re just regular people.”

The rate of assisted suicide in Canada has surged to unprecedented levels in recent years.

The surge prompted the renowned medical journal The Lancet to comment on the alarming rise, which now accounts for 4 percent of all Canadian deaths.

In 2022 alone, there were 13,241 state-sanctioned assisted suicides in Canada.

Meanwhile, the province of Quebec saw a 54 percent increase.

Following several potentially wrongful suicides, an official memo warned doctors to respect the limits of the current law.

Numerous horror stories have emerged from Canada.

A growing number of military veterans suffering from PTSD are now being offered “assisted suicide.”

The Netherlands has recorded a startling spike in the number of citizens being euthanized by the Dutch government for mental health conditions such as dementia, depression, and autism.

Alarmingly, a new report warns that those citizens being euthanized include minors.

A new report from The Times has exposed a massive 60 percent rise in Dutch euthanasia cases for “psychological suffering” – mental illness.

The report also reveals that from 2023 to 2024, the nation saw a 10 percent spike in all euthanasia deaths.

Last year alone, almost 10,000 Dutch people were killed by “assisted suicide.”

Another report from Unherd notes that in 2024, the Netherlands reported 219 cases of euthanasia for “psychological suffering.”

This marks a staggering increase from only two cases in 2010.

“Of the 219, 30 were for patients aged 18-39,” the outlet stated.

“An unspecified number of minors were also euthanized.”

However, although the number was unspecified, there are a few specifics.

One boy between the ages of 16 and 18 was euthanized for autism.

“The psychiatrists decided that his condition was untreatable, despite not having tried all available therapeutic models, and thought he might attempt suicide again if his application for euthanasia was not granted,” the report explains.

“A doctor also concluded that his wish to be euthanised did not stem from his autism but instead from the suffering caused by the consequences of autism, which some may consider a distinction without a difference.”

Another woman with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was euthanized because she suffered an injury that prevented her from cleaning.

The Netherlands legalized euthanasia in 2002.

Since then, the overnmen has been pushing to rapidly expand the laws.

On October 7, 2013, the Daily Mail reported that a Dutch woman had been killed by medics via lethal injection.

The woman was killed because she feared she could not cope with becoming blind.

One of the health specialists analyzing her case insisted that her case was exceptional.

“She was, for example, obsessed by cleanliness and could not stand being unable to see spots on her clothes,” the specialist wrote.

In 2014, the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition described how the Dutch media had reported another death:

“A physically healthy man of 63 who was working for a government institution, died by euthanasia.

“This man had been treated for a long time for depression, but the treatment didn’t work out.

“According to psychiatrist Gerty Casteelen, this man decided that he wanted to die.

“The night before his death, he gave a farewell reception for his colleagues.

“The day after, Casteelen went to his house and gave him a lethal injection.”

In 2015, an 80-year-old woman was euthanized against the wishes of her caretakers at the nursing home, Ter Reede, where she resided.

Her family had petitioned a Dutch court to approve her death after her care needs had become a burden.

However, the woman could not consent to “assisted suicide” due to purportedly suffering from some form of dementia.

Her family claimed she would have wanted death, and, despite strong opposition from the management of the nursing home, medical practitioners, and the woman’s doctor, a Utrecht judge agreed.

In 2015, a Dutch euthanasia clinic was reprimanded for euthanizing a healthy 47-year-old woman who said that a ringing in her ears – a condition known as tinnitus – was unbearable.

Despite this track record, the latest report has caused some concern.

The regional euthanasia review committee, RTE, stated that physicians must exercise “great caution” with psychiatric conditions.

According to a report from the Guardian:

“Six deaths by euthanasia in 2024 were judged by the RTE to have lacked due care.”

The deaths included the woman who was euthanized for the suffering caused by her OCD.

The report noted that “some experts are concerned, especially regarding younger people.”

Damiaan Denys, a professor of psychiatry at Amsterdam University Medical Center, told The Times:

“Although the absolute numbers are still low, there is a recent, enormous increase in requests and euthanasia performed in patients with psychological complaints, especially in young people under 30.

“This is controversial because it is unclear whether young people at that age can meet the due diligence criteria.

“How can one, at that age, determine with certainty that a young person with a still-developing brain definitely wants to die, that life is experienced as hopeless and without prospects and that all treatments have already been carried out?”

The fact that Denys believes Dutch euthanasia numbers are low is an indication of how accustomed to the practice he has become.

Nations around the world should be looking at the rise in young people opting for euthanasia for mental health reasons with enormous alarm.

In Canada, there is still an opportunity to halt the expansion of eligibility for assisted suicide to those suffering from mental illness.

In the UK, it is still possible to stop the legalization of “assisted suicide” altogether.

Those who care for the vulnerable should do everything in their power to step back from the edge of the slippery slope.

Note on what the Dutch politicians made an Act of Dutch law in 2002, and where according to ‘AI’ states then was the basis for a Person to be Euthanized, ”  the “Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide (Review Procedures) Act”. This act, which came into force after a long period of debate and evolving legal interpretations, established a framework for the practice, requiring specific conditions to be met, such as the patient’s suffering being unbearable and irremediable, and the request being made in a clear and conscious state by the patient.

The Dutch government has updated its “voluntary death” laws to allow parents to euthanize their children.

If the child is aged between 1 and 12 years old and meets certain criteria, parents can now put them forward for “assisted suicide.”

The updated law states that the only qualification is that the child must be terminally ill and be suffering.

The law was updated after the Dutch government tweaked its Euthanasia Act so that children are covered for the first time, The Telegraph reported.

“Under the change, euthanasia – legal, voluntary death carried out by a doctor – will only be an option for children who are suffering unbearably with no hope of improvement and for whom palliative care cannot bring relief,” the report explained.

Health minister Ernst Kuipers said the death procedure now is available for “children who are so ill that death is unavoidable and they are expected to die soon.”

The government said it expects the process will be used on up to 10 children a year.

The government argues that euthanasia is different from suicide as it is seen as a medical procedure.

The idea of expanding the laws to children was widely supported by physicians in the Netherlands, according to WND.

But fierce opposition was coming from two Christian parties in the ruling Dutch coalition, the report said.

Kuipers said the change is “a solution that will help these incurably ill children, their parents, and also their doctors.”

Belgium, a neighbor, approved doctor-assisted death for children of all ages a few years ago.

As Slay News reported, Belgium has already killed over 27,000 people with euthanasia so far.

Last year in the Netherlands, 8,720 people were killed by euthanasia.

Since it first was adopted by the Dutch government in 2002, more than 91,000 have died by the procedure.

A report from the Christian Institute in the U.K. said Kevin Yuill, of the group Humanists Against Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia, said the numbers are alarming.

“Euthanasia is increasingly seen as a solution for social rather than medical problems,” he explained.

“What we are increasingly seeing is death, ironically, as a ‘lifestyle choice’ for those who are frightened of living.

“This is worrying, to say the least.”

The report explained:

Last month, Lord Carlile of Berriew KC, philosopher Baroness O’Neill of Bengarve and former Supreme Court judge Lord Jonathan Sumption highlighted the serious flaws in pro-assisted suicide rhetoric in their forewords to a Policy Exchange report.

The experts were writing in support of ethicist Prof John Keown’s critique of the case made by Peers in favour of Baroness Meacher’s failed assisted suicide Bill in the 2021 House of Lords debate.

Lord Sumption pointed to the glaring inconsistency at the heart of the pro-assisted suicide cause: “What is the justification for allowing medically assisted suicide but limiting it to those believed to be close to death or in intolerable pain, actual or prospective?

“There are so many other reasons why one might want to end one’s life.

“Once the moral barrier has been crossed, what is the logical stopping point?”
