A Canadian woman is preparing to be euthanized by the government under the state-sanctioned “assisted suicide” program after years of being denied timely medical treatment for a rare but treatable condition.

The story is yet another grim example of how Canada’s collapsing socialized healthcare system is increasingly steering suffering citizens toward death instead of care.

Jolene Van Alstine suffers from normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (nPHPT), a disorder that causes vomiting, nausea, debilitating fatigue, and bone pain.

Yet despite the condition being operable, Van Alstine says she cannot get the surgery she needs in Saskatchewan because no surgeon in the province performs the procedure.

However, after years of waiting for surgery, the government has offered Van Alstine swift death by lethal injection.

Van Alstine says she has waited years for surgery, but now feels she has no other choice but to give up after losing hope of ever receiving the treatment she needs.

Her life has shrunk to near total isolation.

“My friends have stopped visiting me,” she said.

She describes “living alone, lying on the couch for eight years, sick and curled up in a ball, pushing for the day to end.”

“I go to bed at six at night because I can’t stand to be awake anymore,” she told CBC.

With nowhere else to turn and no functioning medical system to help her, Van Alstine applied for Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).

She was quickly approved for the procedure and is due to be euthanized on January 7, 2026.

Van Alstine revealed that she only had to wait three months to be approved for euthanasia.

Saskatchewan Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill met with Van Alstine last month, but the details remain confidential.

In a generic statement, the government said it “expresses its sincere sympathy for all patients who are suffering with a difficult health diagnosis.”

But sympathy doesn’t replace care, and Van Alstine’s crisis is no longer rare in Canada.

Over 23,000 Canadians have died over the past year while waiting for medical treatment, according to recent data.

Meanwhile, globalist Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government continues aggressively expanding euthanasia policies.

A new report from the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition shows Canada has euthanized 90,000 people since 2016, when MAiD became legal.

What began as a “compassionate option” for the terminally ill has now transformed into the world’s most expansive assisted-suicide regime.

“If there is any surgeon in America who can do this, I’ll pay for this patient to come down here for treatment,” Glenn Beck wrote.

“THIS is the reality of ‘compassionate’ progressive healthcare.

Canadians Fight Back Against MAiD Expansion

A Conservative MP has introduced a private member’s bill to ban euthanasia for those with mental illness.

The effort has earned full support from the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.

According to the Daily Mail, the crackdown on the general public’s emotions and behaviors is being sold as a tool to “combat crime” and “prevent suicides.”

But beneath the polished language lies a simple reality that the UK is openly preparing to monitor its population at a level previously reserved for authoritarian regimes.

The initiative seeks to dramatically expand facial-recognition powers and grant police access to massive government databases, including passport photo archives, to identify people in real time.

Government Wants Cameras That Read Your Emotions

In early December, the government quietly opened a consultation period that runs through February 12, asking interest groups and citizens to weigh in on a law that would supercharge British policing with predictive surveillance technologies.

Ten police forces in England and Wales already use live facial recognition, scanning passersby and comparing results with databases of wanted individuals.

But the new legislation would take this further than ever before.

Under the proposal, cameras could:

  • Infer a person’s “emotions” or “actions”

The news comes as British citizens are already the most surveilled in the world.

Sarah Jones, Minister for Crime and Policing, insisted:

“The confident, secure, and consistent use of facial recognition and similar technologies on a significantly larger scale requires a more specific legal framework.”

A New York Times investigation has concluded that the Ukrainian government under President Volodymyr Zelensky spent the past four years “systematically” undermining oversight of state-owned companies and weapons procurement.

Investigators say this breakdown allowed corruption to thrive even as Western governments poured tens of billions of dollars into the country.

According to the report, outside experts from the U.S. and European Union were sidelined from supervisory boards meant to monitor spending, vet executives, and prevent fraud.

These boards, created under earlier reform agreements with Kyiv, were designed to guard against the kind of large-scale graft that has long plagued Ukraine’s state enterprises.

The Times found that Zelensky’s administration “stacked boards with loyalists, left seats empty, or stalled them from being set up at all.”

The Times quoted Christian Syse, Norway’s special envoy to Ukraine, who acknowledged the governance risks but justified ongoing aid.

“We do care about good governance, but we have to accept that risk,” Syse said.

“Because it’s war,” he continued.

The fallout inside Kyiv has been significant.

Zelensky’s powerful chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, resigned late last month amid the Energoatom scandal and hours after Ukrainian authorities raided his home.

Ukrainian media reported that Yermak, who holds Israeli citizenship, fled to Israel shortly before the raid.

Yermak has long been viewed as one of the most influential figures in Ukraine’s government, with a hand in political, military, and foreign-policy decisions.

Businessman Timur Mindich, a longtime associate of Zelensky and co-founder of the entertainment company Kvartal 95, is accused of leading the embezzlement scheme.

Mindich also fled to Israel before police executed a search of his luxury apartment, according to Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

A former Ukrainian government official told Fox News that “Timur had an apartment with golden toilets that was in the same building as Zelensky’s,” underscoring the level of wealth investigators believe was amassed through the alleged scheme.

Judge Bibas emphasized that assisted suicide “does not appear to be a fundamental privilege, let alone a fundamental right, that states must accord visitors.”

Even if it were considered such a right, Bibas added:

“New Jersey has good reasons to limit it to New Jerseyans: protecting doctors from prosecution, preventing friction with other states, guarding patients from coercion, and ensuring that their decisions are rational and considered.”

National Debate Intensifies

New Jersey is one of nine states that permit assisted suicide for qualifying residents. Delaware is set to join the list in 2026.

California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and Washington, D.C., have all passed laws allowing doctors to euthanize residents.
