In a move critics are warning will usher in a dystopian surveillance state, globalist Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is preparing to roll out mandatory digital ID cards for every adult in the UK.
Starmer is expected to announce as soon as Friday that he will back the so-called “Brit Card.”
The scheme requires every citizen to present a government-issued digital ID when starting a new job or renting property.
The card would link directly to a central government database, determining who is allowed to work or live legally in the UK.
Supporters claim the scheme will stop illegal aliens from taking black market jobs.
However, the rules will only harm law-abiding citizens, as employers who hire illegal aliens are doing so off the books, and won’t require any form of identification.
As such, the digital ID scheme will do nothing to stop illegal foreign workers.
Meanwhile, civil liberties advocates are sounding the alarm that the system represents a dangerous erosion of privacy and a step toward total state control.
Britain remains one of the few European nations without a national ID system.
Most of the rest of Europe is under the control of the globalist European Union, which has been pushing digital IDs for years.
Many view the UK’s lack of national IDs as a safeguard of freedom.
The last time the ruling socialist Labour Party tried to impose ID cards was in 2009.
However, the plan was scrapped by the incoming Conservative-led coalition, which branded the scheme as an “erosion of civil liberties.”
Now, with migration pressures mounting and asylum hotels sparking public outrage, Labour is reviving the scheme under the guise of cracking down on “pull factors.”
Unfortunately for UK citizens, Labour holds a large majority in Parliament, and the next elections are a long way off, meaning Starmer’s leftist government can force through policies without challenge.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has openly endorsed the idea.
Mahmood claims digital ID cards are a tool to clamp down on migration and illegal work.
“I want to make sure that we can clamp down on that,” Mahmood said.
“I do think that a system of digital ID can also help with illegal working enforcement of other laws as well.
“My long-term personal political view has always been in favour of ID cards.”
Critics argue that once such a system is in place, it won’t be limited to employment and housing checks.
Digital IDs could quickly become a requirement for travel, healthcare, banking, and everyday life, effectively giving the government power to track and restrict citizens at will.
Even Labour’s own Yvette Cooper, now foreign secretary, has previously expressed scepticism.
Cooper says she prefers an expansion of e-visas for foreign migrants over sweeping controls on law-abiding British citizens.
But under Starmer, the push for digital identity is accelerating.
What is being sold as a crackdown on illegal migration could instead mark the end of personal freedom and anonymity in the UK.
The news comes after Starmer’s allies in the World Economic Forum (WEF) and United Nations (UN) have long pushed for the general public to be forced into a digital ID system.
As Slay News has reported, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on fellow globalists attending the WEF summit in January to support his plan to restrict access to social media platforms using digital ID technology.
Sanchez laid out his plan during an address before attending the WEF’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Spain’s PM urged world leaders, corporate heads, powerful bureaucrats, and other power elites in the Davos audience to unite in an effort to eliminate “anonymity” and “misinformation” online.
Sanchez says he wants to end anonymity on these platforms and replace it with what he calls “pseudonymity.”
The plan involves forcing platforms to link all accounts to a European Digital Identity Wallet.
If adopted, only people with digital IDs would be able to access social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the UN has been calling on governments around the world to fight “global warming” by mandating digital ID systems to track members of the general public.
The call was made by unelected foreign bureaucrats who serve on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
UNDP officials made the case for why digital identity is allegedly a key weapon against “global warming” in an article titled: “Why legal identity is crucial to tackling the climate crisis.”
If governments assign digital identities to citizens, they explained, authorities can track populations more easily in an “environmental disaster.”

However, the concept raises concern among opponents of digital ID, which is known as the successor to vaccine passports.
Critics say that digital ID increases the probability of government surveillance and totalitarian overreach.
For example, while a government can use a taxpayer’s digital ID to deposit money, it could also use it to lock their bank account if they haven’t paid their carbon taxes, another proposed reform by the UN.
