British Prime Minister Claims Russia Rigged Brexit Vote to Weaken EU

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is alleging that Russia rigged the 2016 Brexit referendum on Britain leaving the European Union as part of an effort to weaken the bloc.
However, the globalist leader has not publicly presented any evidence to support the claims, while one of Burnham’s own ministers says Moscow’s attempts did not succeed.
The allegations come after Burnham, who supported remaining in the European Union, floated the possibility of Britain rejoining the bloc last month.
Britain Unbound, a campaign group supporting British sovereignty, accuses Burnham of undermining the referendum’s legitimacy and insulting the voters who chose independence.
Prime Minister Offers No Details Behind Claim
Speaking during an interview on “The Rest Is Politics,” Burnham said he sought information about Russian activity after entering Downing Street.
“I asked the question coming to Downing Street, was there interference in the 2016 referendum from Russia?” Burnham said.
“And I’ve had the clear answer that yes, there was.
“And these things are important now to put clearly on the record, and I believe help voters in Germany and France understand that some of this politics is instigated via our enemies, namely Russia,” Burnham continued.
He did not explain what Russia allegedly did or provide evidence supporting his assertion.
British Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty subsequently told Sky News that Russia attempted to interfere but did not succeed.
“They do attempt to interfere in our processes, have attempted to interfere in a whole number of them, and of course, it’s not just Russia, it’s other countries, too,” Doughty said.
Britons voted 52% to 48% to leave the EU in June 2016.
The country formally departed on January 31, 2020.
Brexit Group Calls Remarks ‘Insulting’
Britain Unbound argues that Burnham’s remarks cast doubt on a democratic decision without establishing that foreign activity changed the result.
“There is no good reason to believe that Russian intervention influenced the outcome of the referendum in 2016,” the group wrote on X.
“It is also insulting to suggest that voters were so easily duped.”
A parliamentary inquiry into disinformation between 2017 and 2019 examined possible Russian interference.
Its report cited the government’s position that it had not seen evidence of the “successful use of disinformation by foreign actors, including Russia, to influence UK democratic processes.”
“It is not that they have not tried, but we have not seen evidence of that material impact,” then-Culture Minister Jeremy Wright told the committee.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who supported Brexit, also told the BBC in November 2019 that no evidence existed of Russian interference in British politics.
Burnham, by contrast, describes the years since Brexit as a “decade of drift and division” and has raised the prospect of returning to the EU.
Burnham Targets Germany’s AfD
Burnham also says he offered German Chancellor Friedrich Merz support against the right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party.
He described the populist AfD as a “threat” and relayed an allegation about its relationship with Moscow.
“[Merz] was saying to me that the AfD are clearly linked to Russia, funded, I believe,” Burnham claimed.
Burnham did not provide any evidence to support this allegation.
Following an October 8 meeting in Berlin, Burnham’s office announced a British-German partnership to counter sabotage and cyberattacks against critical infrastructure.
Russia has previously denied interfering in the Brexit referendum. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov issued a sweeping denial in July 2020.
“Russia has never interfered in the electoral processes of any country in the world, not the United States, not Britain, nor any other countries,” Peskov said.
Burnham’s allegations now reopen the political battle over Brexit, but he has yet to publicly prove that Russian activity altered the result, and his own minister says any attempted interference failed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused President Donald Trump of betraying him during a “Piers Morgan Uncensored” interview, attacking a U.S. diesel arrangement with Russia and pressure on Ukraine to stop targeting Russian refineries.
The remarks follow Trump’s warning that refinery strikes threaten global diesel supplies and his announcement of an energy ceasefire.
Asked whether he felt betrayed, Zelensky answered: “Really, yes, between us.”
Zelensky Accuses Trump of Choosing the ‘Wrong Side’
Zelensky argued that Washington’s approach jeopardizes Ukraine’s relationship with its most important strategic partner.
“But uh I mean it’s a little bit uh more complicated than just my emotions or my feelings. Yes,” Zelensky said.
“It’s it depends not on my not on me.
“I mean this our our country has to survive and we count on our real partners strategic partners United States and President Trump they wanted us not to attack this my opinion was it’s not fair.”
He described the energy ceasefire as “the worst version of peace but anyway it’s some steps to the peace so the escalation.”
Ukraine nevertheless supported it, Zelensky said, “because we we we need our people to live to go through this winter and to stop the war.
“This is what we want.”
Zelensky also asserted that Ukraine had refrained from attacking energy facilities for three days while Russia struck Ukrainian gas facilities and infrastructure.
“Then I said that okay we will we will hold our emotions and we will not respond on diesel but believe me what I said American partners they will attack energy they will do it,” Zelensky said.
‘We Are Losing Strong Partner’
Zelensky portrayed the dispute as a deterioration in Ukraine’s relationship with Washington.
“It’s a pity that we are losing uh we are losing strong partner,” Zelensky said.
Asked whether Ukraine was losing America, he blamed Washington’s direction rather than his own government.
“Yeah. But but not because of us.
“We I mean this we can’t be weak otherwise we can’t survive otherwise we will we will just we are not selling our country.
“Look guys, it’s not about business for us; just our life and this is our country.
“It’s our body,” Zelensky continued.
“So our home, our children and and this is very important for us.
“That’s why it’s painful when President Trump chooses one side not not our side but we are okay that he’s in the middle but if you’re in the middle you have to stay in the middle not on the wrong side.”
He then turned his criticism toward Trump’s advisers.
“I think Trump’s advisers are wrong. I don’t know who is pushing him to the wrong side,” Zelensky said.
“This is not the right side of history.”
“Now Putin is laughing because, I mean this is for him, simple victory. This diesel deal,” Zelensky added.

Trump says his administration told Ukraine it could strike other targets but should stop attacking Russian refineries because “that’s a world problem” affecting diesel supplies.
He warned that Zelensky “better damn well stop” the strikes and suggested Ukraine “get a new leader who can make a deal.”
Trump also said Zelensky “could have settled this war many times” but chose not to.
The president subsequently announced a diesel arrangement with Russian President Vladimir Putin and declared an energy ceasefire “effective immediately,” saying both sides had agreed.
Ukrainian officials said they learned of the announcement through social media and had not confirmed mutual agreement beforehand.
The dispute puts Zelensky openly at odds with Trump’s effort to protect diesel supplies and advance an energy ceasefire, with the Ukrainian leader framing Washington’s pressure as a betrayal.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a blistering warning this week that the West’s embrace of the Left’s self-hatred has fueled its decline, leaving nations with open borders, weakened militaries, outsourced industries, and shrinking control over their own futures.
Speaking amid the ruins of Hellenic civilization in Greece, the birthplace of Western democracy, Rubio condemned the transformation of national pride into guilt.
The secretary took aim at those teaching children to be ashamed of their own countries.
“Our prosperity somehow became a word of guilt,” Rubio said.
“We no longer believe that we earned and deserved our greatness.”
Self-Hatred Comes With a Price
Rubio laid out the consequences of that retreat from confidence in Western civilization.
“In the process, we opened our borders, we outsourced our industries, and allowed our militaries to wither and decay,” Rubio said.
“With every passing year, we seem to outsource more of our sovereignty, transferring our decisions to global bureaucracies far beyond the reach of our control.”
His warning targeted more than rhetoric.
It described nations surrendering the industries, defenses, and decision-making authority necessary to remain independent.
The address came amid violence and mass disruption in France and Spain involving organized, unvetted migration from the Middle East and North Africa.
It also followed an attempted terrorist attack against a Royal Air Force base in the United Kingdom involving alleged Islamic radicals.
Rubio spoke on the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre in Israel, when Islamic terrorists murdered, raped, and kidnapped civilians in an attack that killed more than 1,200 people.
Teaching Children to Reject Their Inheritance
Rubio took direct aim at the vilification of nationalism and the campaign to tear down the West’s history.
“The word nationalism became a dirty word,” Rubio said.
“We tore down our monuments.
“We condemned our own history, and in too many places, we taught our children to be ashamed of the countries they would inherit.”

The globalist UK government is preparing sweeping social media restrictions that would force all adults to undergo digital ID checks to access major platforms, extending a crackdown presented as child protection to users across the country.
Ministers are laying the groundwork for rules supposedly intended to keep under-16s off social media.
But the verification requirements would also reach adults, making access dependent on passing an age check rather than simply opening an account.
The proposed methods include passports, driving licenses, credit checks, and facial age estimation.
Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, and X are among the platforms expected to be targeted.
The restrictions are expected to take effect in spring 2027, with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy previously identifying March as the launch date.
Adults Face Verification Gate
The government’s plan would require everyone opening a new account on affected platforms to undergo a facial check or upload identification.
That means adults would also face a verification barrier under rules promoted as a way to protect children.
The government’s fact sheet says proving someone is over 18 “could be as simple as a facial recognition check.”
For users unwilling or unable to complete the required checks, the system creates a direct obstacle to accessing social media.
The rules are being introduced through secondary legislation under the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026.
The government is also targeting platform features, extending the scope beyond a fixed list of apps.
Those features include infinite scrolling, autoplay, push notifications, and unsolicited contact.
Nandy said the goal is to “do proper, comprehensive legislation so that it doesn’t just incorporate the specific apps; it incorporates the features that we believe are not safe.”
The result is a broad verification regime affecting adults’ access to services they already use, justified through restrictions aimed at children.
Australia’s Ban Failed to Keep Most Children Off Platforms
The UK push follows evidence that children have widely circumvented similar restrictions in Australia.
More than 60% of children were found to still be using social media months after Australia’s ban took effect.
The British rules apply to platforms rather than directly to users, leaving VPNs as a potential route around the restrictions.
That could trigger another surge in VPN adoption.
When Britain introduced age checks for adult websites in July 2025, some VPN providers reported a 1,800% increase in signups.
The figures expose a central weakness in the approach: users can seek ways around the restrictions while those who comply must submit to additional checks.
Children who bypass the system may continue accessing the same platforms. Adults following the rules face demands to prove their age.
Government ID Checks Raise Data Security Concerns
The push also brings sensitive personal information into the verification process.
Discord suffered a major data leak after introducing age checks, providing a warning about the risks surrounding systems that collect identification documents.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has challenged the premise that universal age verification can reliably protect users’ privacy.
“There remains no reliable, privacy-preserving method of verifying the age of every internet user,” the EFF said.
Passports and driving licenses contain information users cannot simply replace like a compromised password.
Requiring those documents as a condition of online access raises questions about how they are collected, handled, and protected.
Facial checks offer another route through the proposed system, but still require users to undergo verification before gaining access.
Existing Checks Have Already Restricted Adults
Problems with age verification have already affected older British users.
Earlier this year, Apple’s iOS 26.4 age-check system left some UK users unable to prove their age because they lacked a credit card or photocard driving license.
A 67-year-old retired teacher had her browsing filtered because she pays for everything with a debit card.
That case illustrates how an age-check system can restrict an adult even when there is no question that the person is old enough to access the service.
The government is now preparing to extend verification requirements across major social media platforms.
Its stated objective is to keep children off those services.
But Australia’s experience shows that a ban does not guarantee children will stop using them, while Britain’s existing checks demonstrate that adults can be locked out.
The proposed rules would put millions of adults through new verification gates, with digital identification documents and facial scanning checks becoming the price of access to major online platforms.

The Canadian government’s euthanasia regime has taken a chilling new turn after taxpayer-funded doctors were given the green light to euthanize a healthy woman because she had “lost her ability to cook,” arguing that the lethal injection was the only appropriate action because she had “lost her value.”
Canada’s socialist healthcare system approved a woman in her 70s for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) after she began believing that her role in her family had become diminished.
The woman ultimately chose to live after counseling helped her understand that her family loved her for who she was.
But approval to die had already been granted, and she was on track to be killed.
The chilling case was exposed by two psychiatrists who helped implement Canada’s assisted dying system.
They are now warning that people are being approved who should not be.
Gary Rodin and Madeline Li detailed the case in their October 5 New York Times opinion article, “We Implemented Canada’s Assisted Dying Law. We’re Concerned.”
Their warning comes alongside a separate family’s devastating accusation that an 83-year-old Christian grandmother was euthanized against her will while pleading for her life.
Approved to Die, Then Discovered Her Family Still Valued Her
The woman described by Rodin and Li had loved preparing large Sunday dinners for her family.
When she started to struggle to cook for large groups, she felt she no longer had anything to offer them.
“She sought and received approval for assisted dying after she lost the ability to cook,” Rodin and Li wrote.
“She felt she had lost her value to her family.
“Through counseling, she came to understand that her family valued who she was, not what she did for them.
“She decided not to go through with ending her life, at least for now,” the psychiatrists wrote.
“That Christmas, her family gathered and she sat proudly at the table, while others did the cooking and serving.”
Counseling changed her decision.
Instead of receiving a lethal injection, she lived to celebrate Christmas with the family she had feared she was failing.
The case exposes a disturbing failure: a woman who needed help understanding her worth had already been approved to end her life.
Doctors Who Built the System Sound Alarm
Rodin and Li support assisted suicide in principle.
Both have “counseled patients about the procedure and assessed whether they were eligible,” the psychiatrists wrote.
One has “administered the drugs to end patients’ lives,” they stated.
Their involvement extended to building the system itself.
Rodin and Li wrote that “together, we created an institutional framework that determined how one of Canada’s largest medical centers would respond to requests for assisted death.”
Now they are warning about its consequences.
“But Canada’s system for assisted death is no longer an option of last resort,” Rodin and Li wrote.
“Too many people are receiving the procedure without the opportunity for careful reflection about it with a health provider.
“In some cases, patients are being approved who should not be,” the psychiatrists wrote.
“Reports have emerged of people seeking assisted death in the context of poverty or loneliness, raising concerns that they may feel they have no other options.”
Even among cancer patients, Rodin and Li warned that “there’s a risk of rushing into it and shortening what can be a meaningful period in patients’ lives.”
These are warnings from doctors who participated in assisted dying, not merely critics observing it from outside.
They describe patients facing death without adequate reflection, inappropriate approvals, and requests shaped by poverty or isolation.
Euthanasia Accounts for Approximately 5% of Deaths
Rodin and Li described Canada’s regime as “one of the most permissive in the world, allowing assisted dying for almost any form of subjectively intolerable suffering that has a medical basis, or even for medically unexplained physical symptoms.”
Assisted dying now accounts for approximately 5% of Canada’s annual deaths.
In 2023, the Medical Assistance in Dying program accounted for 4.7% of deaths nationwide.
The psychiatrists argued that assisted-suicide activists have largely driven policy and said other medical professionals share their concerns.
The woman who chose to live illustrates the stakes of those concerns.
Her belief that she had become worthless was not permanent. Support helped change it.
The approval to end her life had come first.
Family Says Christian Grandmother Begged to Live
A separate case involves Brigitte Stegemann, an 83-year-old Ontario grandmother whose family says she was euthanized against her will.
Stegemann received a lethal injection under Canada’s taxpayer-funded MAiD program on July 10 at The Pearl care home in Canifton.
Her granddaughter and longtime caregiver, Brigitte Kranendonk, says Stegemann was confused, failed a cognitive assessment, and did not clearly consent on the morning of the procedure.
Stegemann had been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in February.
Doctors were uncertain whether she had six months or as long as two years to live.
Kranendonk said her grandmother had previously rejected assisted dying.
“No, I don’t want that,” Stegemann said, according to Kranendonk.
Her granddaughter said Stegemann’s Christian faith and fear of displeasing God were central to that opposition.
Nevertheless, while Kranendonk was away on a 10-day road trip, the care home informed her that her grandmother would undergo a MAiD assessment.
Confusion and Tears Before Lethal Injection
Kranendonk said she later witnessed a cognitive assessment during which Stegemann gave incorrect answers about her family.
Her grandmother said she had no siblings despite having 13 and incorrectly said none were still alive, according to Kranendonk.
The doctor still declared her eligible for MAiD.
Two days before the procedure, Kranendonk confronted her grandmother with what was scheduled to happen.
“Do you know that you’re going to die on Friday?” Kranendonk asked.
Stegemann cried for 45 minutes, according to her granddaughter.
“I’ve made a mistake,” Stegemann said, Kranendonk recalled.
Kranendonk repeatedly told her she could refuse.
“The doctors are coming on Friday, and you just say no,” Kranendonk recalled telling her grandmother.
Kranendonk described Stegemann’s distress by saying “she was bawling. Inconsolable.”
“I Don’t Want the Death Shot!”
On the day of the procedure, Kranendonk says her grandmother repeatedly removed a medical port intended to provide access to a vein.
“I don’t want the death shot!” Stegemann screamed, according to Kranendonk.
Her granddaughter said Stegemann was unresponsive when the doctor arrived.
According to Kranendonk, the doctor described the injection as medicine and asked whether it was acceptable.
Her grandmother did not open her eyes, nod, or speak, but the doctor proceeded.
Stegemann was pronounced dead within 10 minutes.
The account is the family’s allegation of what happened.
Kranendonk says the experience destroyed her trust in the institutions she expected to protect her grandmother.
“I was flying blind,” Kranendonk said.
The two cases deliver a devastating challenge to Canada’s euthanasia safeguards.
One woman was approved to die because she felt worthless after losing the ability to cook, then chose life after counseling.
Yet, doctors sought to euthanize the patient before treating her.

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has issued a chilling warning that criminals armed with powerful artificial intelligence (AI) are expected to unleash major cyberattacks, extortion schemes, financial disruption, and trigger widespread blackouts and shortages over the next year.
Gates warned that malicious actors are gaining access to the latest AI models without adequate safeguards, opening the door to increasingly sophisticated attacks on public utilities, businesses, and financial systems.
“When you have bad people, no safeguards, and then the latest models, that’s where, over the next year, primarily in the cyber area, we are going to have a lot of negative surprises,” Gates told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.
The warning comes as AI-enabled attacks are already surging, with cybersecurity researchers reporting an 89% increase in attacks by AI-enabled adversaries.
Criminals Could Use AI to Extort Businesses and Manipulate Markets
During the “State of the Union” interview, Gates said cybercrime offers attackers an established way to make money from AI-powered disruption.
“The front that we’ll probably see most dramatically in the next year is cyberattacks, because there, there’s a known business model where, you know, you threaten to do something and ask somebody to pay for that, or you create a disruption that changes something in the stock market or some betting thing that you go and do,” Gates said.
His warning extends beyond stolen information.
Criminals could threaten businesses into paying ransoms or deliberately disrupt systems to manipulate financial markets and betting outcomes.
CrowdStrike’s 2026 Global Threat Report found that attacks by AI-enabled adversaries increased 89% year over year in 2025.
The report also found that the average time criminals needed to move laterally through compromised networks had fallen to just 29 minutes.
That leaves defenders facing attackers who can spread through a breached network rapidly while exploiting increasingly powerful technology.
Gates Warns Governments Are Failing to Address Biological Danger
Tapper also pressed Gates over his warning that AI could help terrorists develop deadly biological weapons.
The host cited Gates’s assessment that the risk of a bioterrorist attack could become 50 times greater than that of a natural pandemic.
Asked whether government leaders were doing enough to prevent such an attack, Gates answered bluntly.
“Well, no, we’re not doing enough,” Gates said.
“The real danger right now is not the AI is [getting out of control].
“We need to work on that, but that’s years away in terms of the big impact that might have.”
Gates’s immediate concern is people weaponizing the technology.
Rather than waiting for a future rogue AI system, criminals and terrorists could exploit models already becoming available to carry out attacks.

Political strategist Oliver Libby responded by calling for government action while arguing that America must remain competitive in AI development.
“The great challenge both for innovators and governments in the coming months is to balance continued progress in AI with smart regulation,” Libby said.
“Leaders who can balance ensuring that America is not left behind, but that no American is left out, will win public trust.”
Libby also advocated federal and international standards, greater platform responsibility, and measures addressing AI-driven workforce disruption.
“Regulation should focus on federal and international standards, platform responsibility, cyber and deepfake penalties, child safety, and ensuring the participation of the population in the economic benefits of this powerful technological revolution — while starting to prepare our society for what could be profound workforce disruption,” Libby said.
Gates’s warning puts a much shorter timeline on the cyber threat, however.
He warns that, within the next year, criminals could use advanced AI to extort businesses and disrupt financial systems while governments remain unprepared for the wider dangers he described.

Vice President JD Vance announced Thursday that the Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a federal green card sponsorship program after the company laid off thousands of American workers while securing thousands of visas and green cards for foreign workers.
Speaking at a White House press conference, Vance said Microsoft had used the permanent labor certification program, known as PERM, more extensively than any other company.
He pointed to Microsoft’s actions last year, when the company laid off 6,000 American workers while obtaining 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards.
“If you do the math, for every worker that Microsoft laid off, they replaced that worker with one and a half foreign indentured servants,” Vance told reporters.
‘You Cannot Lay Off American Workers’
PERM allows employers to sponsor certain foreign workers, including H-1B visa holders, for employment-based green cards after demonstrating that qualified American workers are unavailable for the jobs.
Vance described a recruitment practice that the administration says allows companies to sidestep that requirement.
“They’ll put an advertisement in a small-town newspaper,” Vance said.
“They’ll go out there and say that ‘We have advertised for a position with our company, and nobody is responding to it.’
“And they will use that lack of response to then go and replace American workers with what is effectively foreign indentured servants.”
The vice president argued that foreign workers’ dependence on their employers for immigration status leaves them vulnerable, since losing their jobs can require them to leave the country.
He also said they typically earn less than Americans in comparable positions.
“You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants,” Vance said.
Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said the suspension also covers Adobe and several major information-technology outsourcing companies: Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Capgemini.
The Department of Labor will neither accept nor process new or pending PERM applications involving those companies during the suspension.

Nine Universities Face Visa Scrutiny
Vance also announced further investigations into nine universities over their higher-than-average use of the J-1 exchange-visitor visa program.
The institutions include Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of California, Davis, the California Institute of Technology, Arizona State University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The announcement follows a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposal issued Wednesday.
The DHS plan would require schools to pay a $70,000 fee for each international student participating in Optional Practical Training.
That program permits international students to work in positions related to their fields of study.
H-1B visas are reserved for specialty occupations, with technology companies accounting for a large share of approvals.
Nearly three-quarters of approvals went to workers from India in recent data.
The administration’s latest action freezes access to green card sponsorship for Microsoft and the other targeted companies while expanding scrutiny of universities’ use of foreign-worker and exchange programs.

A group of researchers has sent shockwaves through the scientific community and triggered panic among experts by unveiling new technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to read humans’ minds.
Scientists have unveiled an AI-powered system that reconstructs what people see by analyzing their brain scans.
The breakthrough has raised alarming concerns about coercive interrogation, predictive policing, and intrusions into the privacy of the human brain.
Professor Michal Irani of the Weizmann Institute of Science developed Brain-IT, an AI model that interprets functional magnetic resonance imaging scans to recreate images viewed by participants.
Researchers are now looking beyond still images toward hearing, video, and potentially dreams.
However, many experts are sounding the alarm about the scientific breakthrough.
The United Nations (UN) warns that emerging AI brain-scanning neurotechnology could allow governments to extract information from people’s minds and treat their thoughts as evidence.
UN Warns of Forced Information Extraction
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned Thursday that neurotechnologies are advancing rapidly, raising the prospect of authorities using brain data in investigations, court proceedings, and prisons.
The scenarios include officers extracting information from a suspect’s brain or scanning people’s minds to predict who might commit a future crime.
Guterres warned that abuses could lead to arbitrary detention, the alteration of mental states, and profound violations of privacy.
“Neurotechnology, including new and emerging forms, raises profound human rights challenges when applied to the administration of justice,” Guterres wrote in the report.
“Its expansion beyond clinical settings into investigative, judicial and correctional contexts introduces significant risks, alongside potential benefits,” Guterres added.
The UN’s first formal warning comes as researchers demonstrate increasingly sophisticated methods for translating brain activity into information that machines can interpret.
AI Reconstructs Images From Brain Activity
Irani and her colleagues released their Brain-IT research in a paper titled “The New Science of Mind-Reading.”
The team included Roman Beliy, Amit Zalcher, Jonathan Kogman, and Navve Wasserman from Weizmann’s Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Department.
The study examined fMRI scans from eight participants who viewed thousands of images across 30 to 40 scanning sessions.
Participants viewed around 40 images during roughly 10-minute sessions while researchers scanned their brains six times.
The work produced approximately 73,000 image-fMRI pairs for the AI model to analyze.
Brain-IT reconstructs viewed images with detailed content and composition. It can also predict brain activity by analyzing what a person is looking at.
Irani said other models produce “impressive reconstructions” but frequently make basic mistakes involving composition and color.
“The new model we developed outperforms them in reconstructing both the content of the image and its details,” Irani said.
The team also sharply reduced the scanning time needed to adapt the technology to a new person.
“What’s more, while every other model requires dozens of hours of brain scans to learn to ‘read’ a new person, our model needs only one hour,” Irani said.
Researchers Aim to Decode Dreams
The current study used fixed images. Irani’s laboratory plans to test the methods on hearing and eventually video.
Moving images pose a technical challenge because visual information changes much faster than an fMRI machine can capture it.
“What remains especially challenging is decoding video — for example, during dreaming,” Irani said in a statement.
“Dozens of images change every second, while an fMRI scan takes about two seconds.
“If we overcome all these obstacles, it’s possible that in the future we may even be able to read dreams,” Irani said.
That ambition would extend the technology beyond reconstructing pictures shown to participants and into experiences occurring during sleep.
Warnings Over Coercion and Mental Privacy
Scientists have explored brain-reading technology for years, including its possible use in the justice system.
A 2017 paper published in the Journal of Law and the Biosciences discussed “brain-based mind reading” through neuroimaging techniques.
The paper examined potential applications involving lie detection and assessments of defendants, prisoners, and prospective jurors. It also identified the danger of unethical, coercive uses.
Some neuroscientists have similarly warned that tools such as Brain-IT could be abused to extract information from a person’s mind against their will.
Other researchers have highlighted possible therapeutic applications for neurological conditions, depression, and anxiety.
Princeton University psychology and neuroscience professor Kenneth Norman explained in a 2022 American Psychological Association discussion that improvements in fMRI signals and their analysis had helped make the technology possible.
Norman described how therapists could use neurofeedback to help patients recognize negative thought loops and learn to control those patterns.
But the UN warning reaches far beyond treatment: the same expanding ability to interpret brain activity could place deeply private information within reach of investigators, courts, and prison authorities.
Brain-IT has demonstrated image reconstruction from brain scans.
Its developers’ ambitions now include dreams, while Guterres is warning about a future in which governments could use information extracted from the brain against the person it belongs to.

Minnesota authorities are warning about a growing threat from Somali street gangs as young members turn social media disputes into shootings across suburban Minneapolis-St. Paul, endangering residents and forcing police to redirect resources.
Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said the gang members under investigation come from families with money and resources, defying traditional explanations centered on poverty, drug trafficking, or financial gain.
“They’re coming from families,” Hodges told Fox News Digital.
“They got money, and they have resources.”
The violence has raised urgent questions about recruitment, assimilation, parental involvement, and whether local prosecution policies are hampering efforts to intervene.
Police Redirect Resources Toward Gangs
Hodges said police are shifting task force resources toward the gangs following a string of suburban shootings.
The chief also questioned whether some Hennepin County prosecution policies could limit intervention.
Investigators have identified social media disputes as a factor but have struggled to explain what else is driving young people from financially comfortable households into gang violence.
“I don’t know,” Hodges said when asked about the underlying motivation.
“I can’t tell you. I really wish I could.”
The danger was demonstrated by a late-night Bloomington gunfight that involved more than 100 rounds and left one person injured.
Hodges warned that the consequences could have been far worse with more people outside.
“If that had been one o’clock in the afternoon, it would have been a different story on that block,” Hodges said.
Expert Warns Gangs Could Become Entrenched
Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, warned that the gangs could become more organized without intervention.
Although the groups have not reached the sophistication of transnational criminal organizations such as MS-13, Vaughan said families, schools, local institutions, and law enforcement must act before recruitment and violence become entrenched.
She also questioned whether the federal government’s approach to refugee resettlement had made integration more difficult.
More than 111,000 Somali refugees entered the United States through the federal refugee resettlement program between 2001 and 2023.
Minnesota became a major destination, alongside sizable Somali American communities in New York, Texas, and Ohio.
“We have to remember also that this population’s origins were as refugees who were a vulnerable population and traumatized in many cases,” Vaughan told Fox News Digital.
“But they were settled in clusters in certain places in the United States.
“And I believe that is a policy that has facilitated the formation of these gangs because it removes a lot of the incentives for people to assimilate.
“And it just makes assimilation to the larger society much more difficult because it’s not necessary for people to get by,” Vaughan continued.
Vaughan described prioritizing the preservation of homeland cultures over integration as a “missed opportunity,” arguing that it can leave immigrants in a “separate society within the larger Minnesota community.”
She had not established that specific schools or resettlement policies prompted the shootings.
Community Leaders Point to Parenting and American Upbringing
Somali community figures have offered their own explanations for the violence.
At an Eden Prairie news conference Wednesday, teacher Fardousa Yossuf suggested that parents working long hours may have neglected their children’s needs.
According to Alpha News, she also expressed disbelief that people raised with Islamic values would engage in gun violence.
Imam Yusuf Abdulle rejected describing the shootings as a Somali problem.
“These kids are Americans,” Abdulle told WCCO.
“They’re born and raised here.
“It is an American problem.
“It is not a Somali problem.”
Hodges said investigators have found no evidence that longstanding Somali clan rivalries are driving the violence.
“No, we have not seen that. I haven’t seen it,” Hodges said.
He noted that people from groups in conflict in Somalia can belong to the same cliques in Minnesota.
Assimilation Debate Does Not Resolve Immediate Threat
Stanford sociologist Tomás Jiménez argued that gang involvement among some second-generation immigrants should not be treated as evidence that an entire community has failed to integrate.
“I would actually not think of it as, like, a failed assimilation, as much as a particular kind of assimilation,” Jiménez said.
He pointed to gang activity among earlier Italian, Irish, Mexican, and Salvadoran communities while broader integration continued.
Queensborough Community College immigration scholar Donald Tricarico likewise emphasized that integration unfolds over generations.
“There isn’t a switch that gets flipped,” Tricarico said.
“Assimilation is a slow crawl,” Tricarico added.
Meanwhile, police are confronting the immediate consequences: armed gangs, repeated shootings, and online arguments escalating into violence in residential neighborhoods.
Vaughan’s warning is that waiting to intervene could allow those groups to become a far more organized and enduring threat.
