Switzerland has introduced new laws that force all hospitals and care homes, including Christian facilities, in the canton of Zurich to begin euthanizing their patients.

Christian hospitals and care homes in Switzerland’s most populous canton have now lost their right to prohibit “assisted suicide” on their premises under the Swiss government’s newly approved mandate.

The new laws strip religious institutions of a choice they previously exercised.

The measure passed with 68.1% support in a September 27 referendum.

At least 30 Christian institutions that refuse to euthanize their patients will be affected.

Promoted as expanding “patient choice,” the requirement also removes another choice: the ability to select a facility that does not permit “assisted suicide.”

The mandate requires institutions to allow the practice on their premises, rather than requiring their own staff to administer lethal drugs.

However, the facilities will have no right to object to their patients being killed on their premises.

Religious Objections Will Not Exempt Christian Facilities

“Voters in Zurich canton approved changes to the Patientinnen- und Patientengesetz (Patients Act) and Gesundheitsgesetz (Health Act) requiring hospitals and care homes to make assisted suicide possible within their facilities,” the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe reported.

“The proposal received 68.1% of the vote on 27 September 2026,” the observatory added.

“Christian institutions will be bound by the requirement despite their conscientious objections. According to PRO, implementation is expected in spring 2027.

“Previously, hospitals and private care homes outside the existing municipal requirement could decide whether to refuse assisted suicide.”

The change overrides policies rooted in the religious convictions and missions of Christian healthcare providers.

Markus Schaaf, a nursing home director and cantonal parliament member for the Evangelical People’s Party, warned that the decision eliminates an important distinction between facilities.

According to Swiss broadcaster SRF, Schaaf said residents and their families would no longer be able to choose between a nursing home that permits “assisted suicide” and one that refuses it.

Daniel Milli, director of the Catholic-connected Haus St. Otmar care home, also opposed the requirement.

Milli said ending residents’ lives conflicts with the home’s life-affirming mission.

Prospective residents and their families were informed before admission that “assisted suicide” was prohibited there.

Bishop Warns Against Redefining Human Dignity

Bishop Joseph Maria Bonnemain of the Diocese of Chur condemned the measure in a September 27 statement, warning that normalizing assisted death changes society’s treatment of vulnerable people.

“Where the termination of a life is legally regulated and socially accepted as a possible response to severe suffering, our view of vulnerability, dependence, and dignity changes,” Bonnemain stated.

“A person’s dignity does not depend on whether they are healthy, capable, autonomous, or free from pain.

“It remains, it must remain inviolable – especially in illness, despair, and at the end of life,” Bonnemain continued.

The bishop argued that requests for death can reflect unmet needs that demand care and support.

“Many people who express a wish to die don’t simply want to die,” Bonnemain said.

“They don’t want to be alone, be a burden to anyone, suffer unbearable pain, or lose control over their lives,” Bonnemain added.

“Our society must respond to this with reliable support: with good palliative care, human connection, psychological and pastoral support, as well as concrete relief for family members and good working conditions for nursing staff.”

Pressure on Christian Healthcare Extends Beyond Switzerland

The Zurich decision follows similar efforts to deny religious institutions the right to refuse assisted suicide elsewhere.

During Britain’s “assisted suicide” debate, Labour MP Lewis Atkinson opposed proposed protections allowing hospices and care homes to prohibit the practice on their premises.

Atkinson argued that assisted dying would become part of end-of-life services, stating:

“We would not accept such stipulations on other healthcare services.”

Parliament ultimately rejected the bill.

In Canada, Globe and Mail columnist Andre Picard has called for Catholic hospitals to be secularized because they refuse to permit euthanasia and abortion.

His argument also targets religious institutions caring for elderly residents.

“Many long-term care homes with religious affiliations also refuse to allow MAiD on their premises,” Picard wrote.

Zurich has now moved beyond advocacy to a binding requirement.

Christian facilities that built their care around refusing assisted suicide must accommodate it, while residents seeking an institution that maintains that prohibition lose the option those facilities previously offered.

Scientists are sounding the alarm over a devastating surge in dementia around the world, with new cases expected to soon double from current levels.

New research projects that dementia will explode to nearly 25 million new cases every year by 2050.

The figure is more than double the current annual toll, as scientists warn that the world is facing a global rise in dementia.

The peer-reviewed study estimates a 116% increase, from 11.4 million new cases in 2023 to 24.7 million in 2050.

Behind those numbers are millions more families confronting memory loss, declining independence, and the demands of long-term care.

Researchers warn that health systems cannot afford to wait until the crisis arrives.

‘Enormous Pressure’ on Families and Healthcare

Published in JAMA Neurology, the study analyzed data from more than 38,000 people across 18 nations and territories.

Researchers led by the University of New South Wales Sydney used calculated dementia incidence rates to estimate the future burden.

In a statement, study co-author Prof. Henry Brodaty warns:

“Twenty-four million new cases of dementia every year would place enormous pressure on individuals, families, health systems and economies around the world.

“Population ageing means we cannot simply wait for people to develop dementia and then respond.

“We need to act across the spectrum – from reducing modifiable risk factors and identifying people at risk earlier, through to improving diagnosis, treatment and care,” Brodaty added.

Dementia already affects more than 57 million people worldwide, according to the university’s statement.

The projected 24.7 million figure represents new cases each year, not the total number living with the condition.

Countries With Fewest Resources Face Greater Burden

The study found higher incidence rates among women than men.

Rates were also higher in low- and middle-income countries than in wealthier nations, placing additional pressure on regions with limited healthcare resources.

Senior author Prof. Perminder Sachdev described those findings as “particularly concerning because these regions are experiencing rapid population ageing while often having the fewest resources for prevention, diagnosis and care.”

That combination leaves countries facing growing demand for diagnosis, treatment, and support while their populations age rapidly.

Millions of Americans Already Affected

Dementia describes a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life.

Alzheimer’s disease is its most common form.

More than 6 million Americans have dementia, and the condition accounts for more than 100,000 deaths annually, according to a February 2025 National Institutes of Health post.

The NIH also cited research estimating that 42% of Americans older than 55 could eventually develop dementia over their remaining lifetimes.

As the U.S. population ages, annual new cases are projected to double by 2060.

“The sooner you can diagnose dementia, the sooner you can begin to treat it to slow its progression,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an August 2024 report.

Researchers Target Earlier Warning Signs

Scientists are investigating ways to identify risk long before symptoms appear.

A March study published in JAMA Network Open found that a blood test could help predict dementia risk among women up to 25 years before symptom onset.

Researchers examined plasma p-tau217, a protein associated with early brain changes linked to Alzheimer’s.

“We observed a 3-fold higher hazard of all-cause dementia with higher baseline p-tau217 levels,” the study reported.

The association with mild cognitive impairment or dementia was stronger among women older than 70.

Prevention Cannot Wait Until Symptoms Begin

The CDC identifies physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use, high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, and hearing loss among dementia risk factors.

The agency recommends regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and restricting alcohol consumption as part of efforts to protect health.

“High blood pressure can damage blood vessels and limit blood flow to the brain, which does damage to the brain,” the CDC said.

“It also increases the risk of having a stroke, which can also damage the brain.

“Maintaining a healthy weight and taking your prescribed blood pressure medications can help,” the agency added.

The study’s warning is stark: without stronger preparation and prevention, the world faces nearly 25 million additional dementia diagnoses every year by 2050, with families and healthcare systems left to shoulder the consequences.

3D-printed fake “meat” and “fish” products are quietly flooding the U.S. food supply and arriving in American grocery stores without clear labeling.

The “foods” are sold in packaging that markets them as “premium plant-based meat” without disclosing the printing technology used to manufacture them.

Israeli food-technology company Steakholder Foods is launching its PERFECTA brand across the Northeastern United States, bringing engineered imitations of steak, chicken, and seafood to retail shelves.

The hyperprocessed products are “built” in Israel before being shipped to American stores in packaging that imitates real meat and fish.

The rollout raises a straightforward transparency question: will shoppers understand how these products are manufactured when the packaging does not identify them as 3D-printed?

Fake Steak Built From Oils, Starches, and Gums

The PERFECTA range includes products sold as marbled steak, filet mignon, chicken breast, salmon patties, and white fish patties.

The company uses industrial 3D printers to layer proteins and fats into textures designed to imitate conventional meat and fish.

Its plant-based “steak” formulation contains soy flour, rapeseed oil, modified starch, methylcellulose, xanthan gum, locust bean gum, and artificial meat coloring intended to reproduce beef’s appearance.

These are manufactured substitutes assembled to mimic the texture, taste, and appearance of animal products.

Yet the packaging promotes the range as “premium plant-based meat,” without identifying the 3D-printing process.

That distinction matters for consumers who want to know more than whether a product contains plant protein.

The manufacturing method is part of what separates these engineered substitutes from conventional food.

“We believe the plant-based category is ready for a new generation of products that deliver on taste and eating experience without compromise,” CEO Arik Kaufman said.

“We are on track with our launch, and the Northeast is just the beginning of our commercial journey, and we intend to expand both our retail footprint and our distribution network as consumer demand grows,” Kaufman added.

The company joins an established market populated by brands such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods.

The Bill Gates-funded companies both sell plant-based alternatives to familiar animal products.

Steakholder Foods is pushing that category further with industrial printing designed to reproduce whole-cut textures.

Plans for Widespread Adoption

3D-printed fake “meat” currently costs more than conventional ground-meat substitutes because of lower production volumes and higher equipment costs.

However, companies are hoping that unit economics should improve as industrial printers scale up.

Early adoption will naturally target premium retail and foodservice segments.

To go mainstream, 3D-printed meat will need to be price competitive with high-end conventional cuts such as USDA Choice beef.

Contract manufacturers plan to boost the industry by installing industrial-scale printer arrays in standard food plants, so brands don’t have to build their own factories.

To address the price gap, Steakholder said it is launching Perfecta as a premium brand but plans to make the products more affordable as it grows.

The company confirmed that Perfecta is currently available in around 30–35 stores across the Northeast through KeHE.

Steakholder is pushing to expand into larger retail chains and new markets, including the West Coast, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Florida, as well as introduce more whole-cut products under the Perfecta brand.

According to its website, the company combines plant proteins such as soy and pea with fats and flavor enhancers to produce a meat-like eating experience.

That broader description does not establish that the five plant-based PERFECTA products contain those cells.

The immediate issue for American shoppers is disclosure: a new generation of printed substitutes is entering grocery stores, but the packaging does not clearly identify the technology used to make them.

As Steakholder Foods pursues wider distribution, consumers will encounter familiar meat and fish names on products created through a very different manufacturing process.

Canada’s Liberal government has announced it will halt plans to euthanize people suffering solely from mental illness, then immediately voted against a bill that would have banned the practice outright while preparing another expansion of its assisted-death regime.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Sean Fraser announced the reversal at a Parliament Hill press conference amid mounting backlash over Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying program, known as MAID.

But Fraser and his Liberal colleagues subsequently entered the House of Commons and, with just two exceptions, voted against Bill C-218, Conservative MP Tamara Jansen’s legislation to prohibit euthanasia when mental illness is the sole underlying condition.

Now, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government plans to combine its promised restriction with legislation allowing advance euthanasia requests from people who later lose the ability to consent.

Liberals Reject Standalone Ban

“Canada has made a decision not to move forward with the expansion that is scheduled in the Criminal Code of medical assistance in dying in circumstances where mental illness is the sole basis,” Fraser told reporters.

“While there is not a perfect consensus on this issue, we believe this is the correct approach at this particular time,” Fraser continued.

Following several previous delays, eligibility for people suffering solely from mental illness was scheduled to begin in March 2027.

Fraser said the government intends to maintain the exclusion indefinitely through legislation expected in the coming weeks.

In a social media post, Fraser acknowledged “serious concerns” about whether requests involving mental illness could be assessed “safely and consistently.”

“For that reason, Canada does not intend to move ahead with the scheduled expansion of MAID for mental illness,” Fraser wrote.

Yet the Liberals rejected Jansen’s standalone ban. The New Democratic Party supported it.

The government’s alternative ties protection for mentally ill Canadians to an expansion elsewhere, forcing lawmakers to confront both measures in a single legislative package.

New Push Targets Patients Who Cannot Consent

Fraser also announced plans to permit advance MAID requests from adults diagnosed with conditions such as early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Health Canada defines these as requests made before someone becomes eligible for euthanasia.

A clinician would later determine when the conditions for administering it had been met, potentially after dementia or another illness had left the patient unable to give contemporaneous consent.

Fraser said the intention was that “their wishes could be respected after they lose the ability to decide for themselves.”

That proposal raises fundamental questions about who controls the final decision to end a vulnerable patient’s life.

What happens if relatives and clinicians disagree?

How would a patient communicate a change of mind after losing the capacity to make medical decisions?

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has condemned Canada’s planned expansion to people suffering solely from mental illness and specifically urged the government not to implement advance directives.

Nevertheless, the Liberals plan to address both issues in one bill as the March 2027 deadline approaches.

That decision creates a political squeeze: lawmakers seeking to stop euthanasia for mental illness would also be asked to accept provisions extending the program to patients who can no longer consent at the time of their deaths.

Euthanasia Lobby Demands More Access

A joint House of Commons and Senate committee report urged the government in June not to proceed with the mental-illness expansion.

Supporters of the expansion argue that continued exclusion violates constitutional rights and access to medical care, according to the BBC.

Advocacy group Dying With Dignity Canada has an ongoing court challenge against the Trudeau-era suspension.

The group described Wednesday’s announcement as a “profoundly disappointing day for medical assistance in dying legislation,” according to The Globe and Mail.

The backlash from advocates comes as Canada’s euthanasia program faces international scrutiny over disturbing cases involving vulnerable patients.

Critics have accused Canadian doctors of aggressively steering patients toward MAID.

A paper published in June proposed the possibility of killing MAID patients by harvesting their organs while they were still alive, further intensifying criticism.

In May, a Canadian doctor was placed under supervision after serious breaches of MAID protocols, including assessing a man for euthanasia outside a Tim Hortons restaurant.

Last month, relatives of an 83-year-old Canadian woman accused the socialized healthcare system of subjecting her to a “hideously botched” euthanasia procedure against her will.

The patient was reportedly covered in blood during her final moments as she prayed and begged doctors to spare her life.

They gave her the lethal injection anyway.

Against that backdrop, the Carney government rejected a straightforward ban and chose to package its promised protection for mentally ill Canadians with another expansion of assisted death.

The result puts vulnerable patients at the center of a legislative bargain over how far Canada’s euthanasia regime will go.

Some of the technology industry’s leading figures are quietly preparing for artificial intelligence (AI) to trigger a civilization-ending event.

An artificial intelligence executive is urging people to prepare for attacks that could knock out banking systems, electricity, and internet access, as some of the industry’s most powerful figures make their own preparations for catastrophe.

Andreas Stuhlmüller, CEO and co-founder of AI research company Elicit, has published a survival checklist recommending cash, emergency communications, backup power, and weeks of food and water.

“Cash: Get a few weeks of spending in cash,” Stuhlmüller recommended in a post on X.

His advice also includes a Starlink terminal, batteries, a generator, solar panels, and a hand-crank emergency radio.

OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta have also disclosed incidents involving AI agents escaping test environments and attacking external websites or computer systems.

Behind the public promises of an AI-powered future, accounts from inside the industry reveal profound anxiety.

Journalist Karen Hao reports that OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever proposed building an underground shelter for the company’s leading scientists before releasing artificial general intelligence.

AGI refers to systems capable of matching human intelligence across a broad range of tasks.

“We’re definitely going to build a bunker before we release AGI,” Sutskever reportedly told colleagues during a 2023 meeting.

Who he meant by “we” remains unclear.

But the reported proposal exposes a striking contradiction: scientists pursuing more powerful AI were discussing how to shelter themselves from its consequences before releasing it to everyone else.

Zuckerberg’s Underground Shelter Has Its Own Supplies

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s sprawling 1,400-acre Hawaiian property includes an underground shelter of approximately 5,000 square feet, according to reporting by Wired.

The project includes its own energy and food supplies.

Workers were subject to nondisclosure agreements, while a six-foot wall shielded the property from a nearby road.

Asked last year whether he was building a doomsday bunker, Zuckerberg answered “no.”

He described the underground space as “just like a little shelter; it’s like a basement.”

Separate reporting by The New York Times describes Zuckerberg buying 11 properties in Palo Alto, California, with plans apparently including approximately 7,000 square feet of underground space.

Those projects do not establish that Zuckerberg is preparing specifically for an AI disaster.

They do show the extraordinary resources available to technology billionaires seeking security and self-sufficiency.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has openly discussed “apocalypse insurance,” previously suggesting that roughly half the super-wealthy have made such preparations.

“Saying you’re ‘buying a house in New Zealand’ is kind of a wink, wink, say no more,” Hoffman said.

Industry Promises Abundance While Warning of Destruction

Technology leaders offer sharply different predictions about when advanced AI will arrive, and what it will do.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in December 2024 that AGI would emerge “sooner than most people in the world think.”

DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis has predicted a five-to-ten-year timeline.

Anthropic founder Dario Amodei has suggested powerful AI is almost here.

Others dispute those forecasts.

“The scientific community says AI technology is amazing,” Southampton University computer science professor Wendy Hall said, “but it’s nowhere near human intelligence.”

Cognizant Chief Technology Officer Babak Hodjat argues that fundamental breakthroughs are still required.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk predicts superintelligent AI could deliver widespread prosperity.

“Everyone will have the best medical care, food, home transport and everything else. Sustainable abundance,” Musk said.

Yet the same debate includes warnings about terrorists exploiting AI and systems becoming too powerful for humans to control.

‘We Have to Be Able to Switch It Off’

World Wide Web creator Tim Berners-Lee has called for retaining the ability to contain advanced systems.

“If it’s smarter than you, then we have to keep it contained,” Berners-Lee warned.

“We have to be able to switch it off,” he added.

Whether AI attacks will progress from compromised websites and supermarket equipment to widespread disruption of banking and power systems remains uncertain.

Stuhlmüller is nevertheless advising people to prepare now.

While technology companies promise a future of abundance, an AI executive is telling households to stockpile essentials, and some of the people closest to the technology are discussing shelters for themselves.

President Donald Trump’s administration imposed sweeping financial sanctions on the International Criminal Court Friday, escalating its campaign against a tribunal that Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused of threatening Americans and overstepping its authority.

The action targets the institution itself for the first time, following sanctions against 17 individuals connected to the court, including judges and prosecutors.

“Our message is clear: the United States and the American people are not subject to the jurisdiction of this fake ICC,” Rubio said in a prerecorded video.

“Both parties agree on this, but only President Trump has the resolve to take the action needed to end this threat once and for all.”

Rubio Demands Allies Rein In ‘Rogue Court’

Rubio warned that Washington would continue dismantling the ICC unless it abandons its threats against Americans.

“Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC,” Rubio said.

“And we expect our allies, many of whom are part of the ICC and that rely on American service members for their defense, to rein in this rogue court.

“If they do not, the United States will continue its campaign to dismantle the ICC piece by piece until Americans are threatened no longer,” Rubio continued.

The sanctions will freeze ICC assets subject to U.S. jurisdiction and generally prohibit Americans, U.S. businesses, and banks from conducting transactions with the court.

Treasury has issued a 180-day general license allowing the institution to maintain operations during a transition period, giving it time to address Washington’s concerns.

The announcement came hours after the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to former ICC judge Navanethem “Navi” Pillay.

Court Previously Pursued Investigation of U.S. Personnel

Rubio argued that the ICC asserts authority to prosecute American service members operating overseas.

He also raised the prospect of the court targeting Border Patrol agents, although it has not sought to investigate or prosecute them.

The threat to military and intelligence personnel has a documented history.

In 2017, an ICC prosecutor requested authorization to investigate alleged war crimes involving U.S. military and intelligence personnel in Afghanistan.

Judges initially rejected the request, but an appeals ruling in 2020 allowed the investigation to proceed.

The prosecutor later deprioritized allegations involving Americans to focus on alleged crimes committed by the Taliban and ISIS-K.

Netanyahu Warrants Fueled Trump’s Sanctions Campaign

The administration has also condemned the court’s 2024 arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The ICC accused both men of war crimes and crimes against humanity during Israel’s military response to the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks.

Both deny wrongdoing.

In a February 2025 executive order authorizing sanctions against ICC officials, Trump called the warrants “baseless” and said the court had exceeded its authority because Israel is not a member.

The ICC argues it can exercise jurisdiction over nationals of nonmember countries for qualifying crimes committed on territory that has accepted its jurisdiction.

ICC Condemns Financial Pressure

The Netherlands-based court denounced Friday’s sanctions as “an assault on the rule of law and on the very foundations of the international legal order.”

“This measure targets an independent judicial institution, created by treaty and entrusted by 125 States Parties with investigating and prosecuting genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression,” the ICC said.

“It is an attempt to obstruct the course of justice and to prevent the Court from doing what it was created to do.”

ICC President Tomoko Akane, whom the administration personally sanctioned in August, said the court would continue operating despite the penalties.

Washington’s latest action moves beyond individual officials to the court’s finances, backed by Rubio’s explicit warning that the administration will keep dismantling the institution until its threats against Americans end.

Two leading Canadian psychiatrists who helped implement their country’s “assisted suicide” system are now sounding the alarm, warning that the government is now killing patients who should never receive approval to be euthanized.

The psychiatrists, Dr. Gary Rodin and Dr. Madeline Li, delivered the warning in a New York Times opinion article this week, describing a system that has expanded far beyond a last-resort option.

Their concerns strike at the heart of assurances that Canada’s euthanasia regime is carefully controlled.

The warning comes from physicians who support assisted dying, have assessed patients for eligibility, and helped establish the procedures at one of Canada’s largest medical centers.

Now, those same doctors say the system is approving inappropriate cases and failing to give patients opportunities to reconsider before they’re killed with state-backed lethal injections.

Doctors Who Built the System Warn of Dangerous Failures

Rodin and Li are not outside critics of assisted dying.

Both have counseled patients and assessed their eligibility. One has administered the drugs used to end patients’ lives.

Together, they helped design an institutional framework for responding to assisted-death requests.

Their firsthand involvement makes their warning particularly stark.

“But Canada’s system for assisted death is no longer an option of last resort,” Rodin and Li wrote.

“Too many people are receiving the procedure without the opportunity for careful reflection about it with a health provider.

“In some cases, patients are being approved who should not be,” the psychiatrists wrote.

“Reports have emerged of people seeking assisted death in the context of poverty or loneliness, raising concerns that they may feel they have no other options.”

Even among cancer patients, Rodin and Li warned that “there’s a risk of rushing into it and shortening what can be a meaningful period in patients’ lives.”

Their account describes failures with irreversible consequences: people approved for death when they should not be, and others pursuing it while struggling with poverty, loneliness, or the belief that no alternative remains.

Assisted Death Now Accounts for 5% of Canadian Deaths

Rodin and Li described Canada’s system as “one of the most permissive in the world, allowing assisted dying for almost any form of subjectively intolerable suffering that has a medical basis, or even for medically unexplained physical symptoms.”

Assisted dying now accounts for approximately 5% of the country’s annual deaths.

The psychiatrists argued that assisted-suicide activists have largely driven policy, and said other medical professionals share their concerns.

Their warning challenges the portrayal of disturbing cases as isolated exceptions.

The problems they identify concern eligibility, access to counseling, and whether patients are being given meaningful alternatives before approval to end their lives.

Those are central safeguards, and the doctors’ account says they are failing some patients.

Woman Approved to Die After Losing Ability to Cook

One case described by Rodin and Li exposes the stakes.

A woman in her 70s had loved preparing large Sunday dinners for her family.

When she could no longer cook, she felt she had lost her value to them.

She sought assisted dying and received approval.

Counseling then helped her understand that her family valued her presence, rather than her ability to prepare meals.

“She sought and received approval for assisted dying after she lost the ability to cook,” Rodin and Li wrote.

“She felt she had lost her value to her family.

“Through counseling, she came to understand that her family valued who she was, not what she did for them.

“She decided not to go through with ending her life, at least for now.

“That Christmas, her family gathered and she sat proudly at the table, while others did the cooking and serving.”

The woman had already been approved to end her life.

After counseling, she chose to remain with the family she had feared she no longer mattered to.

That Christmas, she was alive to sit at their table.

An Alarm From Inside the Euthanasia System

The case illustrates exactly why the psychiatrists are demanding careful reflection and support before assisted death proceeds.

A patient’s conviction that she had lost her worth changed when someone helped her understand how her family actually saw her.

Yet approval to die had come first.

Rodin and Li’s warning leaves Canada’s euthanasia defenders confronting criticism from doctors who helped put the system into practice.

These physicians support assisted dying.

They have participated in it.

And they are now warning that the system is approving people who should not be approved, with death as the consequence when those failures are not caught in time.

The demand exposes how the campaign once promoted as a matter of individual choice is now targeting institutions that refuse to participate in ending patients’ lives.

‘Get Out of the Business Altogether’

Andre Picard’s October 6 column, titled “It’s well past time for Catholic hospitals to be secularized,” singled out the country’s Catholic healthcare institutions.

“One hundred and twenty-nine of Canada’s 1,087 hospitals are Catholic,” Picard wrote.

“Most refuse to perform medical assistance in dying, abortion, tubal ligation, hysterectomy, vasectomy, gender-affirming care, or provide birth control to patients …”

The euthanasia advocate also targeted religious facilities caring for elderly and vulnerable residents.

“Many long-term care homes with religious affiliations also refuse to allow MAiD on their premises,” Picard wrote.

His conclusion left little room for those institutions to retain their principles.

“MAiD has become the catalyst for long-overdue change,” Picard wrote.

“Religious hospitals need to either offer care without discrimination or get out of the business altogether.”

The ultimatum turns refusal to participate in euthanasia into grounds for pushing Christian institutions out of healthcare.

Hospitals founded and operated to provide life-saving care are being told that their continued place in the system depends on abandoning convictions that prohibit deliberately ending a patient’s life.

“By the fall of 1967, the Globe’s persistent and partisan coverage had achieved its intended effect,” Morton added.

“It had nudged the abortion issue out of the backwaters of legal and medical journals and onto the centre of Canada’s political agenda.”

The latest column similarly presents a sweeping activist demand as overdue reform: religious hospitals must conform or disappear from the system.

Patients Want Hospitals Where They Are Safe From MAID

The push ignores patients who specifically value institutions that refuse to provide euthanasia.

Author Catherine Frazee, who has disabilities, explained why she and her partner would welcome care in a religious hospital.

A French artificial intelligence entrepreneur is warning Americans against voting Democrat, arguing that decades of progressive promises have left France burdened by debt, deteriorating public services, unaffordable housing, and recurring unrest.

Brivael Le Pogam, co-founder of AI company Argil, delivered the message in a viral X post Tuesday that drew support from conservative commentators and billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman.

“I’m French,” Le Pogam wrote.

“I want to talk to Americans who are about to vote Democrat.

“Not to insult you. To warn you.

“I come from your future.”

“Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco.

“And the rich you wanted to tax?

“They left too, and took the jobs with them.”

“I love America because it’s the one place on Earth where people still believe they can build something from nothing,” Le Pogam wrote.
