Dr Oz Confronts Senior Centers Over Medicaid Bills in Fraud Crackdown: ‘We Don’t Believe You’

Blogger Comment: I wished we had this guy working for us and an equivalent Trump government to cut out astronomical fraud on a massive scale, but what we have in the UK is a corrupt system where our politicians work hand-in-glove with the Giant pharma mafia and where in pharmaceuticals the fraud in the UK is estimated at 600 billion+ with most if not all GP doctors and medical administrators all being involved with vast commissions and for buying the Pharma mafia’s goods…sometimes like 40-times as in the case of the EU, but where this will never change because of the multi-billions involved, as the Parties are all the same when they get in power and forget that the people pay for all this fraud through their taxation even for the vast borrowing to fund this mega-debt Ponzi scheme on the people and on a massive scale…don’t ever trust a politician and especially their leaders, as they all lie as time has recorded…

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz confronted employees at two Queens senior care centers over billing discrepancies, questioning whether taxpayers were paying for attendance and transportation services the facilities actually provided.

At one center, staff suggested outdated wheelchair information might have been copied into records.

At another, Fox News Digital observed apparent name entries in attendance books for dates that had not yet occurred.

The visits were part of a citywide operation in which CMS officials delivered warning letters to more than 80 providers over billing concerns.

“The whole experience was suspicious,” Oz told Fox News Digital, which accompanied him and senior federal health officials.

“The Bills Are Much Higher Than They Should Be”

Oz arrived at Kent Senior Care in Flushing around 8:30 a.m. and handed its director a federal letter notifying the facility that officials were examining its billing practices.

“The bills are much higher than they should be,” Oz told the director.

“The billing is for more people.

“It doesn’t look very crowded here.”

The director said additional seniors would arrive later that morning.

A posted occupancy sign listed a maximum of 70 people.

“The bills we’re getting are as though it’s completely full all the time,” Oz said.

The director maintained that participants signed attendance sheets and that the facility charged only for those who attended.

“You’re getting this letter from the U.S. Government because we don’t believe you,” Oz replied.

Oz also questioned records he described as showing five-day-a-week attendance after the director said many participants came two or three days.

The director insisted billing matched attendance and said some seniors attended more frequently.

Fox News Digital observed several seniors enter without immediately signing attendance sheets.

Staff later instructed arriving participants to sign in.

“People were just walking in there without signing anything,” Oz said.

“And then after I showed up and he saw what we were doing with my team, he started collecting these documents to be signed.”

Wheelchair Charges Draw Scrutiny

Federal officials also questioned charges for specialized wheelchair transportation.

“I don’t see any wheelchairs here,” Oz told Kent’s director.

Fox News Digital reported seeing seniors with walking aids but none using a wheelchair during the visit.

Another official questioned whether the transportation services had been provided and which company had submitted the charges.

The director said some participants had mobility difficulties, including people recovering from strokes, and that wheelchairs were available.

He also suggested workers might have copied information from older files without updating wheelchair-related billing codes.

“Probably he just copy and pasted,” the director said.

At Evergreen Adult Day Care, a manager initially indicated that no participants used wheelchairs before acknowledging that a small number did.

“But you said there weren’t any, were you?” Oz asked.

Future Dates In Attendance Books

Evergreen’s attendance records raised additional questions.

Fox News Digital reported seeing sign-in sheets with apparent name entries for October 22 and October 23, dates still in the future.

The outlet could not immediately determine whether those entries represented completed attendance records or advance schedules.

Oz characterized the books as containing fraud.

A floor manager said approximately 200 seniors attended on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with about 150 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It was unclear whether those figures represented attendance throughout the day or people present at one time.

“So I look at maybe 25 people in the whole space now,” Oz said.

The manager disputed his estimate, explaining that some participants were in classes while others had left for shopping, pharmacy visits, or medical appointments.

“The numbers don’t seem to add up,” Oz responded.

“I’m struck by how few people are here as well,” Oz told the other federal officials.

“This makes me wonder how they sustain these billing levels.”

“Not Free For The Taxpayers”

Inside Kent, Oz approached mahjong tables and questioned whether Medicaid should cover the activities.

“Should the American taxpayers be paying so folks can play mahjong?” Oz asked.

The director said the game helped seniors socialize, exercise their fingers, and improve memory, including participants with cognitive difficulties.

“It’s free for them, not free for the taxpayers,” Oz responded.

“Is that what our federal tax dollars for Medicaid is supposed to go to?

“Or is it life-saving heart surgery?

“Or, you know, new therapies for cancer?”

Social adult day care programs can provide supervision, meals, activities, and social support to eligible seniors.

Whether Medicaid payments are appropriate depends on program rules, eligibility, and documentation.

Oz said authorities were making arrests, executing search warrants, and moving to block certain operators from billing Medicaid as part of the broader crackdown.

Fox News Digital did not witness those enforcement actions at either facility.

The operation involved the FBI, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, the NYPD, and other agencies.

“We know from the billing here that there’s no way this business is running in the way that they claim to be running without something being wrong,” Oz told Fox News Digital.

“Is it an innocent mistake?” Oz added.

“A hundred times in a row, I don’t think so.

Oz also alleged that organized criminal networks were paying seniors to participate in fraudulent billing arrangements, with some receiving between $1,000 and $1,200.

He further alleged connections to money laundering and human trafficking.
