Anthropic Quietly Lobbying for ‘AI Kill Switch’ to Only Be Triggered If Incident Kills More Than 50 People

Blogger Comment: This should tell you something very important, seriously disturbing and SINISTER, as they have exposed themselves again out of their own mouths with their real thinking on humanity and even human life itself where it is worth realatively nothing really in their minds and why people have to become totally aware of the Globalist’s extraordinary and totally malevolent mindset to destroy humanity unleashing the real agenda for ourselves…where these Globalist doers do not give one iota for human life and that is the bottom-line…for they have stated that very clearly that 50 people in a single ‘isolated’ instatce can DIE before stopping where this happens (but nowhere else, so the rest can continue killing humans) and before blowing the whistle on AI…wake up people again, before it is far too late to do anything about it…but where you are doing nothing still, where there is now only 3-years to go to the Globalist’s golden year of 2030…where this will be just a continuous nightmare from thereon and until we die normally if we are very lucky indeed under the Globalist control or as the Globalists will totally dictate on a list of those to go, where they will base that decision on the whim of AI to whether you are a financial burden and liability to them or not…and only that simple question, as they have stated that fact so many times in Davos since 1971…

Artificial intelligence giant Anthropic is calling for the government to introduce an “AI kill switch,” but the company is quietly pouring millions into lobbying officials to support a rule that ensures the technology is only shut down if an incident kills more than 50 people.

Anthropic is among several artificial intelligence companies pushing a federal AI shutdown mechanism.

However, Anthropic is lobbying for such an intervention to require a threat of serious injury or death to at least 50 people, or property damage exceeding $1 billion.

The proposal would not require casualties to occur before officials could act, but it would require evidence that the threshold would be breached.

The rule would set a high threshold for emergency intervention and restrict it to three specific categories of danger.

The lobbying push comes as leading AI companies and executives pour tens of millions of dollars into political groups ahead of the midterm elections, seeking influence while Washington considers rules governing their industry.

High Threshold for Government Action

Anthropic representatives have been holding quiet discussions with lawmakers about draft AI legislation, according to Politico.

The report cited three people familiar with the deliberations.

The company’s proposed framework would allow federal intervention when a model poses a qualifying imminent threat involving a biological weapon, a catastrophic cyberattack, or the model escaping its developer’s control.

The threat would also have to meet the casualty or property-damage threshold.

That leaves a substantial limitation at the center of the proposal: risks below those thresholds, or outside those three categories, would not activate this particular emergency mechanism.

Anthropic is therefore advocating a federal kill switch while helping define the narrow circumstances in which Washington could use it.

Layers of Bureaucracy Before a Judge Acts

The proposed process would begin with an independent monitor operating under the Department of Commerce.

If the monitor determined that an upcoming AI model was about to meet the specified conditions, it would have 72 hours to report its findings to Commerce officials.

Those officials would then decide whether to present the evidence to a federal judge.

A single judge would ultimately determine whether the flagged model could be released to the public.

The framework would route an imminent-threat determination through a monitor, Commerce officials, and the courts, creating multiple decision points before a dangerous model could be blocked.

It would also expand Washington’s authority over advanced AI under a framework that a major developer is actively helping shape.

Millions Flow Into Politics as Industry Seeks Influence

Top AI companies have spent at least $55.7 million on political action groups, according to a New York Times tally.

Executives at OpenAI and Anthropic have been among those directing money into political organizations ahead of the elections.

The spending accompanies an increasingly consequential fight over who writes the rules for powerful AI systems, how much authority Washington receives, and what obligations developers must accept.

Anthropic defended its proposal as an extension of policies it has promoted for months.

“This bill represents the proposals outlined in Anthropic’s Advanced AI Framework, which we have been advocating for with federal and state lawmakers since June,” an Anthropic spokesperson told Politico.

“These are sensible policies we believe Congress should act on.”

Anthropic has yet to publicly back particular legislative efforts in Congress.

However, they have backed some state AI safety laws, including two in California.

Over the summer, Anthropic was subject to sweeping export controls that shut down two of its most advanced models.

The decision was made in a whirlwind series of phone calls between administration officials and the company’s executives.

The incident worried some in the tech industry that access to their technology may be restricted on the whims of government officials.

The proposal the company has been quietly lobbying puts a central question before lawmakers: whether an industry-backed safety framework would provide effective protection or leave developers substantial room to operate beneath narrowly drawn emergency thresholds.
