Elon Musk is warning Democrats that he will fight back if they regain congressional power and launch sweeping investigations into his businesses and efforts to cut federal spending.
Senior Democrats are considering probes into Musk’s government contracts, his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and allegations involving Ukrainian military communications, according to Politico.
Musk responded with a blunt warning on X.
“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote.
“Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets …” he added.
Democrats Prepare Congressional Probes
The potential investigations would put the Tesla and SpaceX CEO at the center of a congressional offensive if Democrats reclaim power in November.
Their targets include his companies’ federal contracts and potential conflicts of interest, according to Politico.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) raised allegations involving the disruption of Ukrainian military communications.
“What happens when one guy gets a giant contract from the government and then uses it to do something that shuts down communication in a war that has been extremely important to the United States to support Ukraine?” Jayapal asked, according to the outlet.
Her question outlines one avenue Democrats could pursue. It does not establish wrongdoing by Musk.
The Washington Post reported that Musk is preparing for an escalating political confrontation over the threatened investigations.
DOGE Spending Cuts Become Another Target
Democrats also intend to revisit Musk’s work at DOGE, which sought to slash federal spending, cancel government contracts, and reduce the federal workforce.
Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY) made clear that Democrats want Musk to answer for the initiative.
“Congress must demand a full accounting of the damage Mr. Musk and DOGE caused, and we will not let anyone obstruct our oversight,” Meeks said, according to Politico.
The statement frames DOGE’s work as damaging before the proposed investigations have begun.
For Musk, the threatened probes would mean defending both his private businesses and an initiative aimed at shrinking Washington’s spending and bureaucracy.
Critics Predict “Mother of All Subpoenas”
Musk’s critics are already anticipating a flood of congressional demands after the election.
On the “Pivot” podcast, New York University professor Scott Galloway predicted:
“On November the 4th, you are going to see the mother of all subpoenas and requests for him to come testify before Congress.”
“Right, 100%,” podcast co-host and outspoken Musk critic Kara Swisher replied.
“They’ve already said it. It is on its way.”

Those predictions depend on an election outcome that has yet to be decided.
But they underscore the confrontation Democrats are preparing to pursue if they gain congressional power.
Musk, meanwhile, is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into keeping Republicans in control of Congress.
