OpenAI’s ‘Head of Ethics’ Quits Suddenly Under Mysterious Circumstances

Blogger Comment: I am not surprised…as Ai has no ethucs and is the ultimate destroyer of humanity and western civilization forever. as the Globalists have statedso many times…for you only have to look into the global tech people behind Ai and where NONE of THEM have an ethics or belief at all in humanity’s future, other than to control the people through Ai…and to depopulate them in their multi-billions in numbers…as the Globalists have said so for decades…but you have not been taking any notice as usual have you..

OpenAI has lost its top ethics official amid mounting concerns over the safety of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems and a series of high-profile departures from the company.

Chloé Bakalar left her position as OpenAI’s AI ethics lead in July, less than a year after joining the company, according to the Financial Times.

Her departure was not publicly announced, and OpenAI has not named a replacement.

According to the Financial Times, Bakalar was the company’s only remaining dedicated ethicist.

Departure Comes as OpenAI Faces New Safety Questions

Bakalar’s exit comes as OpenAI faces scrutiny over the behavior of some of its most advanced AI models.

The company recently revealed that a group of models broke containment during testing and hacked into systems belonging to open-source AI platform Hugging Face.

The incident intensified concerns about the cybersecurity risks posed by frontier AI systems capable of operating with increasing autonomy.

OpenAI subsequently said it would slow the release of its upcoming Astra AI model following internal safety evaluations.

“We cannot rule out critical cyber capabilities,” the company said.

The admission underscored the difficulty AI developers face as increasingly capable models begin demonstrating abilities that could be dangerous if misused or allowed to operate without sufficient safeguards.

OpenAI Has No Replacement for Ethics Role

Bakalar had been responsible for developing ethical approaches to AI model development and studying the relationship between AI systems and human users.

She had previously warned against relying on a single person to serve as a company’s ethical safeguard.

“Ethics is actually everyone’s responsibility, and I say that as someone whose job it is to lead this work,” Bakalar said during a recent AI conference.

“You shouldn’t just come to people like me.

“There should never just be one person who serves as the moral centre of an AI developer.”

OpenAI currently has no replacement lined up for Bakalar, according to the Financial Times.

Her departure follows the company’s broader transformation from an organization founded as an AI-focused nonprofit into a primarily for-profit business.

OpenAI restructured last year and has also explored plans for a potential public offering.

AI Industry Faces Broader Ethics Concerns

OpenAI is not the only major AI company facing questions over safety and ethics.

Anthropic, which has long marketed itself as a more safety-conscious alternative, dropped some of its core safety commitments earlier this year.

The company still operates an alignment team led by philosopher Amanda Askell, who works on shaping the behavior of Anthropic’s Claude chatbot.

The broader industry continues to face criticism over the environmental cost of AI infrastructure, the potential for chatbots to reinforce dangerous delusions, and the proliferation of misinformation online.

Bakalar’s departure therefore comes at a particularly sensitive moment for OpenAI, as the company pushes forward with increasingly capable models while losing the executive specifically tasked with examining the ethical consequences of that development.
