Former CIA Director Mike Pompeo issued a stark warning that China’s infiltration of Canada has become so extensive that operatives linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) may no longer even appear ethnically Asian, but instead blend seamlessly into Western society.

Speaking at the Canada Strong and Free Conference in Ottawa on May 7, Pompeo warned attendees that CCP-affiliated individuals could already be operating inside Canadian political, academic, and business circles without detection.

“I can’t see very much out there, but I will bet you that there are Chinese Communist Party-affiliated people in this room today,” Pompeo said.

He cautioned that modern CCP influence operations are no longer limited to Chinese nationals.

“They look like me; like they’re white Italian kids,” Pompeo added.

Pompeo Warns CCP Influence Has Penetrated Western Institutions

Pompeo argued that China’s infiltration efforts now extend deeply into universities, research institutions, and political systems across North America.

“There is not a single university in the United States that isn’t deeply tied to Chinese money,” Pompeo warned.

He also raised concerns about Chinese students allegedly being used in intellectual property theft operations tied to Beijing’s broader global strategy.

Rather than focusing solely on fears of a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan, Pompeo said Western nations should be far more concerned about the CCP’s growing influence inside major North American cities and institutions.

The former CIA chief specifically criticized the Liberal government of Prime Minister Mark Carney for pursuing what he described as dangerously close ties with Beijing.

According to Pompeo, China would quickly abandon Canada the moment it no longer served Beijing’s interests.

“China will sell your nation’s values down the river in two seconds,” Pompeo said.

He urged Canada to strengthen ties with nations that share Western democratic values instead of aligning more closely with the CCP.

Conservatives Blast Carney’s Growing Ties to Beijing

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also sounded the alarm during the conference, criticizing Carney’s recent outreach to China and warning against shifting Canada away from the United States.

“We must reject the idea of a permanent rupture with our biggest customer—which buys two-thirds of our goods—in favour of a strategic partnership for a ‘new world order’ with Beijing,” Poilievre told attendees.

Carney has faced mounting criticism after publicly describing Canada’s relationship with China as more “predictable” than relations with the United States under President Donald Trump.

The Liberal government has also pursued new agreements with Beijing tied to agricultural exports and electric vehicles.

As part of recent negotiations, Canada reportedly agreed to scale back major tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.

The Canadian government will also allow thousands more Chinese vehicles into the country.

Critics have warned that the move could expose Canada to massive national security risks.

A former Canadian intelligence officer previously warned lawmakers that Chinese electric vehicles could pose surveillance threats and potentially compromise Canada’s electrical infrastructure.

Foreign Interference Concerns Continue to Grow

Pompeo’s remarks come amid growing evidence of Chinese interference inside Canadian politics and institutions.

China has repeatedly been accused of targeting Canadian lawmakers, academics, dissident groups, and ethnic communities critical of the CCP.

Investigations into foreign interference have also intensified following reports that Chinese operatives may have influenced multiple Canadian federal elections.

The final report from Canada’s Foreign Interference Commission concluded that China represented the country’s primary foreign interference threat and indicated CCP-linked operatives may have helped influence the election of several Members of Parliament during the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.

Additional reports and investigations have also examined alleged links between Canadian political elites, globalist organizations, and foreign actors tied to Beijing and the World Economic Forum.

Pompeo’s warning underscored growing concerns among Western intelligence and security officials that the CCP’s strategy increasingly relies not on military confrontation alone, but on quietly embedding influence networks throughout Western governments, universities, corporations, and infrastructure systems.
