A newly resurfaced FBI document is once again fueling speculation about one of the federal government’s most bizarre UFO mysteries, claims that tiny humanoid beings were recovered from crashed flying saucers in New Mexico.

The decades-old memo, now circulating widely online after renewed public interest in government UFO disclosures, was originally written on March 22, 1950, by Guy Hottel, then the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office.

Addressed directly to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, the memo summarized information from an informant who claimed an Air Force investigator had recovered three “so-called flying saucers” in New Mexico.

The memo was released as part of the Trump administration’s UFO Files release on Friday.

FBI Memo Described Small Humanoid Bodies

According to the memo, each unidentified craft was circular in shape, roughly 50 feet in diameter, and featured a raised center.

More strikingly, the memo alleged that each saucer contained three small humanoid occupants.

The beings were described as having “human shape” and wearing metallic, cloth-like material.

The memo stated the bodies were “only three feet tall,” though many modern retellings have described them as closer to four feet tall.

The report also included claims that the objects may have crashed after being disrupted by a “high-powered radar” installation that allegedly interfered with the crafts’ controls.

Despite the extraordinary claims, the FBI memo itself made clear the bureau did not verify the story.

“No further evaluation was attempted,” the memo stated.

FBI Has Tried o Downplay the File

The Hottel memo has since become one of the most viewed documents inside the FBI’s public online Vault archive, largely because UFO researchers and government transparency advocates continue citing it as possible evidence of long-hidden federal knowledge regarding extraterrestrial phenomena.

The FBI, however, has repeatedly attempted to temper the speculation.

In a 2013 explanation posted alongside the file, the bureau emphasized that the memo does not prove the existence of UFOs or alien life.

The FBI also noted that the document was not newly discovered and had already been publicly available since the late 1970s before eventually being added to the FBI Vault system in 2011.

According to the bureau, the memo merely recorded a second- or third-hand claim that agents never formally investigated.

Renewed Interest Comes Amid Trump-Era UFO Transparency Push

Still, the resurfacing of the memo comes at a time of rapidly growing public interest in UFOs and what the government now calls Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs).

President Donald Trump’s administration has pushed aggressively for increased transparency surrounding classified UFO records.

The effort has included the recent declassification push involving military footage, intelligence reports, and federal archives.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), who has long been advocating for disclosure, said on X:

“Remember the Feds told us these files didn’t exist and [Trump] stood up to the deep state.

“The 1st drop will be big, but in comparison to what is coming they will be a drop in the bucket.

“I would say ‘Holy Crap’ is coming.”

The renewed focus has reignited long-running suspicions among many Americans that the federal government has concealed information about unexplained aerial phenomena for decades.

For skeptics, the Hottel memo remains little more than an unverified rumor preserved in government paperwork.

But for those who believe Washington has hidden the truth about UFO encounters, the document continues to stand as one of the most intriguing and mysterious records ever preserved inside FBI files.
