A new analysis has revealed that Google’s news aggregation platform overwhelmingly favors left-leaning media outlets in its top morning headlines.
Researchers from the Media Research Center (MRC) reviewed the top 20 stories featured in the morning edition of Google News each day and found that right-leaning outlets made up only a small fraction of the content.
The study was conducted throughout February.
Right-Leaning Sources Rarely Featured
According to the report, just 11 of the 487 total stories analyzed, about 2.2 percent, came from outlets categorized as right-leaning by media ratings firm AllSides.
By contrast, the study found that:
• 314 stories (64.5 percent) came from outlets classified as left-leaning.
• 162 stories (roughly one-third) came from outlets rated politically “center.”
The analysis also found that no right-leaning outlets appeared at all on 17 days during the month.
On days when right-leaning sources were included, they were typically limited to just one story among the top 20 headlines, according to the report.
Conservative Stories Often Ranked Lower
Even when right-leaning content did appear, the study claims those stories were frequently ranked lower in the list of top headlines.
According to the analysis, the lone right-leaning story was placed beneath other outlets roughly 45 percent of the time.
The report identified Fox News, the New York Post, the Daily Mail, and The Bulwark as the only right-leaning outlets that appeared in the dataset.

Critics Point to Platform Bias
Critics of major technology companies say the findings reinforce longstanding concerns about ideological bias within large digital platforms.
David Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, argued that Google cannot simply blame algorithms for the disparity.
“Google can pretend to hide behind its algorithm all it wants,” Bozell said.
“The fact that it followed Apple News’s lead in suppressing right-leaning outlets tells you all that you need to know about the search giant’s rampant anti-conservative bias.”
Bozell called on the company to change its approach.
“Google must come clean and start operating fairly,” he said.
“It can do so by not discriminating against right-leaning outlets.”
Google Defends Its News Algorithm
Google has long insisted that Google News results are generated by automated systems, not by editorial decisions based on political viewpoints.
According to the company, the platform’s algorithms prioritize factors such as relevance, authority, and timeliness when determining which stories appear in the headline feed.
Yet, those results routinely favor the Left and conveniently censor conservative viewpoints.
